Place cards only at table?

Leonormorrow, on August 12, 2020 at 5:01 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 25
I am having a very small wedding in September of about 25-30 guests. I am planning on getting fancy geode place cards to serve as place cards and favours.

I wasn’t planning on doing escort cards or a seating sign. There will be 5-6 tables scattered through 2-3 small rooms in venue. Would it be easy enough for guests to find their seat while exploring the venue (it is a greenhouse)? Especially if coordinator and caterer help?
Or do I need to do something else/do escort cards instead? Thanks!

I would really do escort cards. Even with that small of a group, as a guest, I wouldn't want to have to look at every seat in order to find my name. You can buy a pack of small Avery tent cards for a few bucks and print the escort cards at home. Or use the geodes as escort cards instead of place cards.

I think it can work since you have smaller numbers and the Wedding Planner can assist. I would just hate for it to turn into a scavenger hunt type of feeling with guests circling around the tables. But, only due to your smaller numbers you can avoid escort cards

Even with the smallest guestlist, it would be a madhouse to locate your table without an escort card. To make it easier on your guests, keep the geodes but have them on a front table as escort cards with table number and let them pick the seat.

I would do escort cards even with such a small group. Your guests are going to have to want to walk around to each table to look for their seats especially in different rooms.

I only did place cards and we had 7 tables, but we only had 15 people and all of the tables were in one tent. I would at least make a list of which room people are seated in to limit the number of tables they have to look at.

This sounds like a good idea! Do you have any suggestions on where to put this?

Thanks for commenting! I will add that we will have our family seated next to us and can tell them that in advance. So there would be about 15 others that would need to find there seats from 3-4 tables (and it will be based on household/close friend group). Do you think it would still be wise to do escort cards instead?

I still personally feel like it would be awkward to wander around from chair to chair.

Thanks for commenting! We are doing plated service to make it safer for guests by reducing crowding so need to assign seating. And I don’t want to do two sets of cards if we can avoid it. Aside from our families who will sit with us, there will only be 15ish guests seated by household. Do you think it would still be too hard to locate table?

Anytime you have guests sitting down to eat, it's courteous to make the process as smooth as possible for them. Why do you need two sets of cards?
Number the tables and attach the table assignment to the placecard, in your case the geode. Write the name and table number on the front and you're done. That way, they don't have wander looking for their spot.

It kind of depends on how your venue is arranged, but I was picturing a small poster just outside of the door/entryway to each room. If that doesn't work, you could also make one poster that had a list for each room on it and put that somewhere in the cocktail hour space if you have one, or near the exit of the ceremony space if you don't.

That could work! There are maps of the venue I could print and insert the table lists there maybe. There aren’t really doors but I could put them at the main entrance. I’ve attached a photo of layout. Thanks!Place cards only at table? 1

It's so helpful to have a map! I think having it near the schedule sign would work well.

I would still do a chart with assigned tables, and don’t necessarily have to do assigned chairs. It’s kind of nerve-racking for the guests to have to figure out where to sit, especially since traditionally it’s planned. Totally up to you of course, your geode idea sounds really cute!
