Pizza dinner?

Drew & Juliessa, on June 19, 2022 at 1:44 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
My fiancé and I came up with the crazy idea to have pizza served at our wedding lol. And now I’m freaking out because can you even order that many pizzas for one day? How would I even order that? Please tell me someone has done this before?

I've never heard of it being done but what the heck...... you could be the first!
It's your 🥳.....plan and call ahead to see which franchise can handle a large order

You could absolutely do this, but there are quite a few logistics you are going to have to plan for.
First, I would contact your reception venue and find out the following things:
    1) do they allow you to bring in outside food?2) do they have a method to keep the pizzas warm?3) do they have a wait staff to safely serve the pizza? (because you are not going to simply want to stack up some pizza boxes and let people just help themselves. Especially in our current Covid climate people are not going to want others touching and breathing on their food). If not, you will need to hire your own wait staff. I would also ask if they will be providing the plates, silverware, napkins, etc. or if you will need to rent those items from an outside company.
If the venue can accommodate all these things, I would then poll your guests for any sort of gluten or dairy allergies, and make sure to choose a pizza restaurant that could accommodate if necessary. Then you will need to decide what you will serve with your pizza (appetizers, salads, sides, etc.) and ensure whichever pizza restaurant you choose can provide those as well.

Yum! I would call your local pizzerias and ask them how they handle large orders. For work pizza lunch functions I always place the order a few days in advance but call around and ask. Happy planning!

I would look at local pizza places and ask for catering budget and offerings. It's not realistic to just order 20 pizzas and crack the boxes though. You'll need to keep the food hot and arrange for someone to serve it. I would add some salads in there too.

Pizza is fine as long as your wedding is a casual event. I went to a reception last year in a barn and they had servers dish out pizza and salad for about 80 people and the restaurantdelivered.. You can see in the far right of the picture the sign and the pizzas in the warmers. Drinks were self serve. It was fun and low key.

That’s pretty cool and yes our wedding is going to be more causal than fancy so I think it’s appropriate but right now the rough draft for the amount of people coming is about 100

We’re doing pizza at our welcome dinner this upcoming weekend and I just called to try to pre-order (about 20 pizzas), and they didn’t even want my pre-order…it was that much of a non-issue. They just said call a few hours ahead ( we will call first thing in the AM). So to answer the question about amounts, my guess is they won’t have any problem. Id just call and have a hypothetical conversation with the place you’re hoping to order from and see what they suggest.

We hired a pizza truck for our wedding. They bring a wood fire oven to make the pizza fresh. It was pretty inexpensive. I would see if there is something like that in your area so you don’t have to worry about logistics.

I just went to a party (not a wedding but another large event) with a pizza truck and it was awesome! Definitely look into it. Be sure to them about their experience with weddings, because food trucks often only have to serve a few people at a time, so a wedding of 100+ may be a different ballgame for them.

Unless you're having a super-casual wedding that you want to feel more like a backyard party, I personally find the idea of ordering pizzas for a wedding super tacky. If that's what you're going for, though, then I'm sure you can make it work. Just as you would any other caterer, I would call your favorite pizzerias in the area to get price quotes based on how many people you're planning to host. I will say that I would recommend local places rather than something like Pizza Hut or Domino's. Local pizza, especially if there's a particular kind that's special to your area, will be better appreciated.

My father and one of his ex-wives had a pizza reception when I was younger and it was so delicious. They had a semi formal wedding and their crowd didn’t expect any type of full meal regardless of meal time or not so it was a nice surprise and everyone loved that they were tasty without being overly fancy. They called ahead a couple days before and had a local chain deliver. The pizzas were set up on trays outside of the boxes. No chafing dishes needed and everything was piping hot. Costco food court also has delicious pizzas that you can order a day or two ahead and have someone pick them up.

Pizza might be a bit messy for people who are dressed up for the event. Certainly for people wanting a casual reception, pizza would work.

I was actually just thinking recently how cute it would be to have servers walk boxes of pizza around during the last hour / half hour of the party.

Pizza at the end could be nice for people who got the munchies late in the event.

I would love that, but it depends on your guests. I know personally that 15% of my guests are GF, Vegan or Keto. But maybe that’s not the case for your guests.

Pizza is less messy than cupcakes which get all over your face and clothes and pushed as *the* dessert to serve. Guests will be sitting down to eat with napkins for each person. So no messier than any other meal option.

We plan on having a more causal wedding reception and we are not forcing our family and friends to dress up. It will be more of a come as you are wedding reception and if they want to dress up they can.

We are doing pizza for our wedding! We cringed at the idea of doing something run of the mill like chicken/fish, even considered tacos but it didn’t feel like us. We definitely are doing a more sophisticated version, if you want to level it up there may be mobile vendors in your area!
We are using a caterer called Swig and Stone (on IG)
That is a brick fired pizza bar built into a vintage chevy truck. Elevating it a few steps further by having a charcuterie grazing table for cocktail hour, Italian signature drink, and gelato for dessert. Not sure if you’re having an outdoor wedding but may be something to look into!

I've seen it done at a friend's wedding. They had a wood fired pizza truck come and dish out the most amazing pizzas at their wedding. This is the reason I am having done for our wedding in northern Minnesota. I told the owner of the mobile wood fired pizza oven how many people I needed to plan for and he came up with the qoute. It can be done! Good luck!
