Pinecones on our cake

I am just looking for a little help... Has anyone else had pinecones as decoration on their cake? We finally ordered our wedding cake last weekend, and part of the design is pinecones. I am just looking for a little help... Has anyone else had pinecones as decoration on their cake? We finally ordered our wedding cake last weekend, and part of the design is pinecones. Our baker asked if we would provide them, or if we wanted them to... right away I responded "We can provide them!", thinking it would be no big deal. WELL... Right after we left I got to thinking... Do you use REAL pinecones on wedding cakes, or do you use "fake" pinecones? From looking into it there aren't really any "fake" pinecones, but they can be made from gum paste. I had it in my head to use real, but then with a quick search, I found a small forum board of people saying that, thats an awful idea and its disgusting to use REAL pinecones. So...... I'm not sure what to do now. Is it weird to use real pinecones? Do I ask her to supply them? Do I try to make them myself? Has anyone used pinecones as part of their design... can you help me?

I am having cake #2 at my 12-22-18 wedding, and asked a very similar question on here about a month ago! (I also need the berries and pins sprigs as well!) I didn’t offer-my baker told me to provide them!
Everyone acted like it would be super east-it hasn’t been. Nothing on Etsy. Joanne Fabrics looked at me like I had 3 heads. Michael’s-nothing “in” yet, but said to check back in a week or two. A person on my thread commented that she recently purchased exactly what I need at Hobby Lobby. Unfortunately, the only 2 times I have been near one lately was on a Sunday! I’m going to hopefully try this Saturday. As I said, I thought this would be a LOT easier!

With it about to be holiday season you should be able to find nice fake pine cones in just about any store. If you choose real ones please make sure if you pick them that you put them in a closed ziploc bag for awhile to kill any bugs that might be on them (I would do this even if you got it from a craft store). You also need to coat them in like a polyurethane spray or dip so that the particles don't get on the cake. It's a bit of a hassle, I'd recommend getting them from a store that guarantees they're not dirty.
