Pie vs cake?

Jessica, on October 10, 2019 at 1:37 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 24
My fiancé and I are getting married October 2020, I recently saw another couple had a fall wedding and had pie at their wedding instead of cake. When I told my mom about it she told me it was too bizarre and to stick with cake. But I really like the idea of having a cozy fall wedding, and I think serving pie gives you that cozy fall feeling. But now I’m unsure, so I came to ask opinions. What do you think? Pie or cake?

We're getting married tomorrow and we're having both! I like the idea of both! I like cake, he likes pie, why not?

I think pie is a great idea for a dessert!! Because it's a fall-themed wedding, you could have the different fall pie flavors: pumpkin, apple, rhubarb (if you're into that), pecan, even mincemeat (if you're into that). I don't know anyone who doesn't love pie. Plus, as much as I like cake, wedding cake is usually boring and not very flavorful. Pie would be much more interesting!

I get that parents tend to just want to stick to “tradition”, but I think it’s sweet. How big is your wedding? If it’s huge it could be a more daunting task, although still doable with good planning. But if you’re wedding is intimate it’s an especially perfect idea!

If you want to do pies, I say go for it!!! I think it's perfect for your fall wedding! You can have a variety of pumpkin, apple, etc. I love it when I see other couples go for nontraditional desserts, I think it's so much fun and adds a personal touch! For instance, we're doing donuts. I know that's a bit trendy at the moment, but my FH and I always said we would LOVE to have apple cider donuts instead of a cake! (we're going to have other flavors, but we want primarily cider donuts) Smiley smile

If you like our the go for it. . You could even have a small single layer wedding cake to cut.

I'd probably do some of each. Maybe 2 flavors of pie and 1-2 flavors of cake or cupcakes for the traditionalists. It doesn't have to be all or nothing!

We did individual pies (for my "cake") and doughnuts (for H's cake), because we don't like cake. People loved it.

Having pies sounds great! As long as you have a good variety it should be fine!

We got married in October and we had mini pies and apple crisp for dessert, no cake. They were a huge hit. We had a full sized pie with a cake topper for our “cake” cutting.

We are having a spring wedding but pie is included in our buffet package. We will have a 6in cutting cake for us and pie for our guests.

Do what makes you happy. Ours was a cost cutting decision but I think it will be unique and no one will care that much anyway.

I don't like cake much, and went to a fall wedding that had just a spread of different pies and thought it was the best thing ever. A lot of the recent weddings I have been to skip cake in favor of different dessert options (cake pops, donuts, pies, and individual dessert bars and brownies have all been popular options, and I went to one wedding with an ice cream cart with a guy hand scooping ice cream and that was my favorite of all). Almost all of those other options are also less expensive than a traditional wedding cake, which is an added bonus. Do whatever you want!
