I have been married for 2 months and I haven’t seen one photo from our photographer. The contract said I would see them with in 6 weeks but I haven’t even seen one. I asked when I will see them I was told a vague answer like sometime in August. My friend got married last week and got her photos within 48 hours. I know it depends on the company and everything but I just want to know if it is common to wait this long for photos.

Our photographer told us about 4 weeks about after our wedding. We shall see.

The contract is king. At two weeks after the contract deadline, it's fair to request to have them by a specific date in the not too distant future, rather than a soft deadline of "sometime in August." To me, that just sounds like the person is just dismissing you and that's not ok.

As Cheryl mentioned, your contract is what you should be using as a guideline here. If the photographer agreed to have your photos to you by a certain date as per the contract, and that date has now passed, you are totally right to be frustrated.
Have you spoken with your photographer about this? Do they realize they have gone passed the agreed date?

So I still haven’t received my photos. My husband has started to contact her and she promised to have them
to us last week. We are starting to think we have to go to small claims but I’m scared if I go to small claims I’m not going to get my pictures and that’s all I really want
