Picking up the cake the day before?

Jazz, on May 7, 2019 at 2:44 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7

Has anyone ever picked up the cake the day before their wedding/event? We are doing the berry chantilly cake from Whole Foods as well as a quarter sheet cake. My MOH brought up picking up the day before because we'll be driving 50 min to pick up. Do y'all think the cake(s) would be okay being picked up the day before? Any suggestions on storage? We'll have a fridge but idk if that will cake the frosting hard overnight or not? Any help welcomed!! Smiley heart

Could you pick up something super small from them, but similar? Like a cupcake? Then put it in your fridge & eat it the next day to see how you like it?

I've done this with sheet cakes and cupcakes for birthdays. The frosting usually gets hard when stored in the fridge because of the fat content. Once it has set out on the counter/came to room temp the frosting was back to being melt in your mouth.

The chantilly cake taste better the next day then it does the day it’s made. 😋

I would ask your venue about this. They have probably had weddings before with the cake dropped off prior and can tell you what worked.

For my sister's wedding, the baker actually dropped it off the afternoon before the wedding (a whole day early) and it sat in the climate-controlled reception hall undisturbed just fine. I think it was a basic wedding cake with buttercream.

Is there an option closer to your venue you could pick up the day of? I would ask Whole Foods about storage, she should know their products best. Some cakes require refrigeration. I’ve never had the one from Whole Foods but the Chantilly from Publix has to be refrigerated.
