I picked up my dress yesterday...a full ball gown. It was not in a wedding gown bag, but a regular bag that you would pick up dry cleaning in. Like the type of bags I get from Macy's when I buy a suit for work or a cocktail dress. NOT a ball gown garment bag. White plastic (trash bag type plastic). I am fuming. The dress was stuffed into it like a sausage. Seriously, I drove home looking like there was a body stuffed in the bag in the back seat. The entire bottom of the gown was balled up into the bag as it was not nearly as long as the gown and the train was stuffed all inside. It is totally wrinkled around the bottom especially. How the heck do I get wrinkles out of tulle! It is out of line for me to think with a $1300 gown (I know I know...not exactly expensive for a wedding gown, but still) that they should have put it in a wedding gown bag/protector? I'm livid. To top it off...I go to David's Bridal yesterday afternoon to buy a gown bag from them...and they are closed on Tuesdays. (I did NOT get my dress at David's, only went there for a garment bag). I was in the parking lot sitting in my car looking like "Anger" from the movie Inside Out. What the heck. Am I wrong for thinking that it should have been in a gusseted, longer length bag. Ugh....and how do I get the wrinkles out of the tulle overlay. Ugh, vent, vent, vent.

A ballgown in a dress garment bag would likely wrinkle anyway, but you should be able to get a fairly inexpensive steamer and get the wrinkles out. You could also hang it in the bathroom while you shower so it gets a little bit of steam that way, but even with my lace dress, I kept it out of the gusseted bag for several days and steamed it to get the wrinkles out.

You are not wrong for thinking your gown would be in proper wrapping. Did you say anything at the store? Where did you get it? You could most likely have it steamed.

You have a right to be angry of the treatment of your $1300 purchase! Unacceptable. I would suggest the bridal store pays for your steaming and have it professionally done. Or they need to do it.

P.S. Your gown is seriously stunning! The black lace is exquisite, love the white peeking through. Kudos for wearing such a cool gown. Can't wait to see your wedding pics. Wow.

This dress is pretty! I would be upset too. As a person who works with gowns they represent the store/brand and overall experience. The person who was assisting you should of taken more care of packing the dress, or at least explained to you what to do when you get home, I would call them back and tell them everything. They might be able to steam your gown free of charge.

Wow my dress that I ordered online from Davids at least came less wrinkled than yours and with a garment bag. I would be upset at the condition that it came in. But honestly you would need to get it steamed even if they put it in a garment bag.

The wedding dress garment bag is usually not as long as the dress and ball gowns typically get wrinkled. My first wedding dress was a big ball gown and we had to shove the bottom of the dress in the bag. It got wrinkled. We just had the dress shop steam it the week of the wedding and it took the wrinkles out. The bottom was tulle as well.

I'd be upset too. If you get a good steamer from Amazon, the wrinkles will come right out. The dress is beautiful though!

I would contact Macy's, maybe through email or phone? The least you can get is an apology, but maybe they will give you a credit? It's worth trying.

First, I love love love your dress. I have a serious weak spot for black gowns.

Second, get a steamer (handheld will be easier to transport but won't have the same power as a standing steamer) and it will get all of the wrinkles out. You would end up needing one anyway for the day of.

And finally, the dress being $1300 is a moot point. I don't care if the dress was $5, you don't treat someone else's property like that, especially something as precious as a wedding gown.

Were you told you were getting a garment bag? You can't expect things you aren't offered. As far as the wrinkles go, just steam them out. Either in a steamy bathroom or by your seamstress

Awww that is not how a wedding dress should be treated. However, I doubt your dress would've fit in the bag either way. Mine is also ballgown and doesn't fit in the bag provided :-( They should've given you a nice bag. I think the best and easiest option is to invest in a cheap steamer. It will come in handy in life as well! I just steamed my curtains the other day!

So it was still on a hanger, just in a plastic covering bag and not the thicker cloth type? I don’t understand why that is a big deal.

My dress was crepe Ross and I was told to hang it up when I got home to let the train out of the bag so it didn’t wrinkle. I think every wedding dress that has a train or a lot of fabric will be prone to wrinkling but there is really no safe way to transport it except stuffed into a bag.

I really sont don’t understand the big deal about this. Get a steamer, but this is really not a big deal nor any different than the norm.

I agree. Mines is a ball gown too and actually came folded in a box. Tulle is extremely easy to get wrinkles out. If hanging it on bathroom while showering doesn't work, a little bit of steam will go a long way

My veil looked like that when i got it in the mail... not a big deal, I’d just steam it. My gown was actually still sealed in the box it cake for, the designer to the bridal salon a few weeks ago.

As PP said steam it, it’ll be fine.

Mine still wrinkled a bit in its bag, so yours probably would too. However, I would be equally pissed if someone did that to any of my dresses let alone my wedding dress. Let it hang and maybe try to steam it? Smiley sad

You can definitely steam or lightly iron it. I was a ballerina for years and that's what we did with our tutus - ironed them on a low setting for what seemed like hours (25 layers of tulle for the longer ones even more for the short ones) doing each layer separately. Tulle unwrinkles really easily with minimal steam.

Also depending on the store you got it from, they may not have real garment bags, many dont because they arent super cheap and if you arent charging for them it isnt economical with less expensive dresses (stores are about the profit) but even with a real garment bag, a dress that big will have to be smooshed in and will get wrinkly, its better to keep them out of all bags unless transporting. My cousin found my dress in a black garbage bag unceremoniously dumped in her attic when she bought the house from her parents - it was in with a bunch of grandma's stuff that had never been sorted or dealt with almost a decade before. And my seamstress was still able to get all the wrinkles out of a heavy satin (very difficult fabric to iron/steam) so yours will smooth out just fine with a little TLC.
