Photography, worth the splurge?

Amy, on August 16, 2016 at 10:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 47

From those who have been married, are wedding photos worth a splurge?

We disagree on the importance of a photographer. He thinks that we will only have one or two printed photos of our wedding so hiring someone for maybe $200 who is average at best for the formal pictures only will be a good option. On the other hand I found a newer photographer to the area who will do all day coverage, edited photos, social media rights and engagement session for $2,000, less than what I currently have budgeted. Any ideas on if we should save or splurge?

Splurge for us! It is one of the few things you will have forever.

Splurge!! Totally worth it. Photography is my most important thing. That's the one thing we can go back and look at later!

I don't even know why you would bother having a wedding without a photographer.

If you're going to do that- just go to the court house.

okay- that's extreme- but that's how I strongly I feel about pictures.

Yes. Photography for a wedding is worth the splurge when photos are important to you ... whether it is both or just one of you.

Cut : STD, favors, programs, printed napkins, post ceremony toss of something by guests (bubbles, etc), signs.

Splurge : photography/photo booth/video, open bar, great cake, awesome food.

Even if they can take a good snapshot, it doesn't mean they understand the craft of a GOOD PHOTO. (This one is seriously cracking me up. Who would frame that?!)

I don't even consider it a splurge. It's almost a necessity to me to have a good photographer to capture the day.

After the cake has been eaten, the flowers have died, etc- your photos are what you are going to have to help you relive that day. We skipped out on expenses for favors, programs & printed napkins to make sure we could afford an excellent photographer to capture our big day. DH's brother and his wife hate their wedding photos and its very sad for them. They only have a couple shots that they were happy with and have displayed in their home. Don't skimp on a photographer. After its all said and done I am sure your FH will be glad he listened to you on this one!!

I would not say splurge because to me a splurge is something you don't need but really want. Photos are the one thing that for generations to come they will have left of you. When my grandma passed away she had so many photos and it was great to see all my relatives I never knew. All because of photography. I am still kicking my butt for not going with a great photographer that I know. At the time I thought it was too much, note I an stuck worth a photographer who although is good but is just not great.

100% splurge! Photography is the one thing that lasts when almost everything else from your wedding day is gone. The cake gets eaten, decorations come down, but those photos (and the amazing memories that come with them) will be there for you the rest of your life Smiley smile

My FH and I really are just one photo type of people.

I think it can be worth it if you want it to be.

We just want the basics and some pictures, but also don't want to be spending the whole day taking pictures. We just want some for memories.
