Just Said Yes July 2020

Photographer...

Amanda, on May 26, 2020 at 3:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 25
So my wedding is coming up July 10th.

My photographer messaged me yesterday and asked if I knew it was a Friday, and informed me she may have to work... but would try to get it off...
I booked with her at the end of April, shouldn't she have done this at that point? Not wait until 6 weeks before my wedding..I'm starting to wonder if I should just find a different photographer to ensure I have one for my date..and to avoid any last minute bails from her. What advice do you all have?

Wow that’s not professional of her. Do you really like her work ? I would find someone new

I suppose it will come across as hot headed, but I'd be fuming. Do you have a contract with this person? She has to honor the contract or refund whatever deposit you've provided. I would personally be distrusting of her now and would probably want to find someone else. In an effort to be fair, maybe you could give her a couple weeks and, if she can't confirm she will be available as planned, look elsewhere. I'm so sorry you're dealing with that!

Your wedding is coming up soon, I would find a more reliable (and frankly, more professional) photographer. She does not sound like a good fit for such an important role.

Lol what?? She sounds like an amateur. Is there a written contract? Have you paid anything? Head for the hills and find someone professional.

Do you have a contract with dates and times listed on it? I just don’t understand how she wouldn’t have known it was a Friday. This would make me super nervous, especially since it doesn’t even sound like she’s 100% committed to showing up.

If you signed a contract with her you need to contact her ASAP and make sure she understands what she committed to. If you don’t have one then I would quickly find someone else that is reliable.

I would first shop for another photographer and see if you can line one up. In these times, I think you will be able to find a talented, full time wedding photographer quickly who would welcome your business. Then, give yourself a deadline of who you want to go with. Don’t cancel on the photographer until you have a backup. 👍

Like others said, I’d be doubting her because she’s coming across very unprofessional. The way she approached it is so strange. Like of course you know it’s a Friday it’s your wedding day I’m sure you looked at a calendar. She should have too before booking a job on that date!

There are literally thousands of photographers that would do anything for work right now. Ditch her and find someone that would respect and appreciate your business. This is the most unprofessional thing I have ever heard of and if it were me I would not want to take the chance that the day of she just wouldn't show up. A contract only means that you could sue her for it, but if you don't have a photographer to capture your special day it may ruin your mood (I would probably have a meltdown). Good Luck and Im sorry you have to deal with this

That is literally terrible for her to ask something like that... i mean if you booked her, shouldn't she have known the date she is booked for?? wow. that is kind of unprofessional.

I would try to get someone else and try to get a refund from her. That's incredibly unprofessional and I wouldn't trust her.

I would replace her ASAP. That’s the point of paying a deposit, to hold your date.

I would 100% see if you could find a backup! I’m not sure what it is about photographers, but I am having the toughest time with them being good communicators for some reason! Good luck with everything

Um, I would be questioning all of her abilities, if she booked without knowing what *day* she contracted for!

Absolutely demand back any money, and get a new photographer ASAP.

    I'm so sorry this happened!

Because your wedding is coming up quick I would look into a backup photographer in case your original bails on you... That is very unprofessional of her to not request this time off after you booked. Worst case your backup photographer will keep your deposit if your original is able to come through for you.

I would book soon with a backup though, you don't want to miss out on capturing your big day!

How would she not know what day of the week it was when you booked her? That is ridiculous! I would look for someone else, quickly! Your current photographer sounds unprofessional and I would not trust her with your wedding photos.

I would absolutely be looking for a different photographer! I can understand if she was booked or busy that day as it seems you aren't having a long engagement.. But to initially agree, when you gave the date, then make it sound like it's an inconvenience for her is just rude and very unprofessional. Like obviously you know what day of the week you're getting married... you choose the date! She should have looked at her calendar and checked before agreeing. That response from her would rub me the wrong way. I would personally look to go with someone else.
