Photographer is pregnant....:(

laneybird, on April 24, 2013 at 10:09 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

We met with our fantastic photographer yesterday for a 6 month out check-in. she tells us that she is pregnant and is due 3 weeks after our wedding date. this is her second baby, so she could certainly have the baby early. and even if she doesn't, she will be crazy pregnant and so it puts the whole thing up in the air.

we did tons of research and met with at least 15 photographers before selecting this one. we love her, and loved her engagement session. we chose her for her personality and photo style.

she says that she has a friend that will step in as needed and take our pictures. and i know that she didn't plan to have a baby that soon to our wedding date, but i'm still left a bit bummed.

Is it just the one photographer or does she have a second shooter who works with her? What does your contract state as far as a back up? At 8-9 months pregnant she's probably not going to be running around as well as she would if she wasn't pregnant and I'd be worried she'd miss some important action shots. Candids are the most important to me in my photos. Maybe she can bring a second shooter to help make sure everything gets captured and who can step in should anything happen on your wedding day.

I've had 2 kids and neither one wanted to come out, but yeah, those last weeks are rough.

That really sucks. If her friend needs to photograph your day is she willing to give you a discount? Also, are you able to meet her friend prior to the date and to view his/her portfolio to determine whether or not you even like his/her work?

My photographer is prego too! She is due 2 weeks after our wedding day and it is her first. She seems completely confident that it will be fine, and I am not too worried about it. She did set up a back up photographer just in case she goes into labor or something happens, but I love her style so much that I am totally ok with it!

Dont stress, as long as you have a back up you will be fine!

My cousin is a wedding photographer and she photographed a wedding three days before she had her baby at full-term. She had a backup plan, but she turned out to be able to fulfill all commitments (though that couple didn't get their pictures as quickly as normal, which they knew would happen).

All women are different; she might not have any issues doing your wedding.

I went through the same thing.. I booked a great female photographer early and one day she emailed me and said that shes pregnant and that the baby is due the same week as my wedding. I was really depressed but she also had a good friend of hers that is also a photographer and referred him to me. Best thing thats happened because he was awesome. I feel that the person shell pick for you will also be awesome. . Good luck!!

My photographer is preggo too, but will deliver well before our wedding...our engagement session on the other hand, might be an issue. Im going to be meeting with her this week to go over those plans and hopefully have a date for the engagement photos to be done at least two months before her due date which is sometime in August. Good luck, I hope she can still shoot your wedding. I know what you mean by choosing her for her personality and portfolio, thats why I chose my photographer Smiley smile

Thanks everyone! i really needed some validation! i am excited for her, but i think it sucks because i can't control it, and when i booked the photographer i thought i didn't have to worry about that aspect of my wedding.

my FH is going to contact her to see who her back-up is and see if we can get a discount if this ends up going a different way.

I am glad I don't have to worry about a pregnant photographer. Mine is a guy in his 50s. So I am good there. But he had a stoke in January so I am little worried mainly because he is my cousin.
