Photographer for rescheduled reception next year

Helene, on October 22, 2020 at 11:09 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14

Hello all, just looking for some insight. my husband and i got married on our planned wedding date on 9/25/2020, but had a smaller event of about 30 close friends and family due to covid at our home. We are having a larger reception at our planned venue next fall, primarily so we do not lose our down payment. Since we were in love with our venue, we planned on having a photographer at the reception next year, but now that we had our wedding day which was beautiful, i'm wondering if it would be odd to have a photographer next year? i do want nice photos taken, however it is not our wedding day any longer. Just looking for some insight...

thanks!

I think it depends on what you plan on doing. Will you still be having a ceremony where you renew your vows or any of the traditional things at the reception like a first dance or cake cutting. If you plan on having those special moments, then I would think you'd want the photographer there to capture those moments.

I agree with Veronica. Are there specific moments you want captured? Even if those moments are just your guests all dancing and celebrating your wedding? If so, I say go for it! Especially if you're planning to wear your dress and have your wedding party dress up too. That way, you could have pictures from both your ceremony this year, and your reception next year.

You want to have photos taken, you should have them taken. People hire photographers for all kinds of events, not just wedding, so I don't think it should matter that you're already married. You still deserve to have beautiful photos of your celebration with your loved ones.

Although it’s not your wedding, it’s still a special gathering. So, having a photographer is fine

We had a photographer at our minimony and we will have both a photographer and videographer at our big wedding next year!

I'd rather spend money on good pictures than most anything.

I would absolutely have a photographer. Even though you’re already married, it sounds like it was downsized and different from what you originally planned and envisioned. I say have the ceremony & reception you dreamed of and pay the money to have it captured forever!

Well the thing is, i was very happy with my smaller wedding. it was beautiful. if the venue could give back our deposit, i would be totally fine with not having another event next year. our wedding was intimate and what i actually wanted.

It sounds like you don’t really want a photographer. So don’t have one. No need for us to talk you into it.
