Photographer Equipment Damage Liability

I am considering a photographer for my wedding. In the contract it states that we would be responsible if their equipment is damaged by one on my guests. Is that standard?

That's weird....but that's the way it should be. I have never been asked by a venue. Even the historic union station hotel downtown Nashville didn't ask me for proof of insurance. And they're pretty protective. Unless the client gave them that info, I keep my policy number in the contract. But I've never been asked for it.

Those without insurance are probably also the ones who don't pay taxes or have occupational licenses.

My point. Venues are letting them continue if they don't vet.

I got the insurance just to cover all such issues plus potential weather disasters...though my photographer doesn't have this type of a clause in their contract.
