Photo Location Help! Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island locations

Jenna, on September 17, 2015 at 3:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

My wedding ceremony will be held in Brooklyn and then the reception in Long Island (Nassau County). I’m trying to plan pictures for the time between church and reception. I figure depending on where, I would arrive to take pictures around 4:30-5pm. Ideally it would be great to have someplace that had an indoor option in case of bad weather.

I have tried Old Westbury Gardens and The Planting Fields both close too early that day. Any ideas, please help?!

Hopefully the lighting will be enough for your pics at that time. Too bad the Planting Fields won't be an option. We took our pics there and they are amazing!

What about CW Post? I've seen a few brides post on liweddings.com that they've taken pics there. Search for posts on picture locations on that site. I found it very helpful when I was in the planning stages.

We also looked for indoor venues for our engagement pics last November and came up with nothing decent so we braved the cold weather.

    Good luck!

Can you tell us what part of Brooklyn and what part of Nassau County? Two huge areas and you can easily be taken way off your route without specifics.

The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens may still have some pretty places that time of year. DUMBO? Freeport, Nassau County at the very end of the Nautical Mile overlooking the water. Or Long Beach is you don't mind your dress getting a bit sandy. I'm drawing a complete blank for Queens. Can't remember if it's too early for foliage.

I echo the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens or DUMBO. You might also find some nice spots in Brooklyn Bridge Park, which has a spectacular view of downtown, the Brooklyn Bridge, and a carousel that you could probably ride if you wanted to.

    Thanks everyone.

I will be getting married is Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn and the reception in Floral Park LI. I'm pretty sure I will need to do some traveling for pictures so we built some time into the day for that. From what I understand from talking to the photographer we should be okay with day light.

I'm going to research all the ideas here and hopefully something will work for us. Thanks for all suggestions!

What about Floyd Bennet Field or Jacob Riis Park? They are right down Flatbush Avenue and will give you good access to the Belt Parkway. Or, Jamaica Bay Wildlife refuge?

SoontobeJB it's funny that's right by where we live actually and my parents took wedding pictures there in 1979. Hopefully if it's bad weather the reception venue will let us take pictures there

I actually totally forgot about that location, i've been trying to find a location close to our venue (ridgewood queens) but had no luck since i'm not familiar with the area. I'll be getting ready at FMIL's directly across the street from Sunset Park so we decided to take a chance and try to get some pics there before the ceremony. We got engaged there and FH grew up there so I thought it was fitting. Now i'm thinking if we have enough time maybe we can go to the Bay Ridge location as well.

It would be kinda cool if you can replicate a picture your parents took.

We took Engagement pictures at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens AND in DUMBO. Both locations were beautiful and great to shoot in, we are planning to stop back in DUMBO with our Bridal Party on the way from the ceremony to the reception to take pictures with them there.

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is sooo beuaitful, BUT you will have to pay a fee to get in. Also, they can sometimes be weird about "professional" shoots on their location. Like if its just a couple & their photographer they wont bother, but if you have a large party & more than one photographer they might give you a hard time. They usually will make you buy a permit to take pictures there if you arent having your wedding there.

There is a really pretty Park right by the Verrazano Bridge that might be worth looking into. Also you could take pictures in Prospect Park. We live near there and there are soo many beautiful places to take pictures!

Thanks Jade, I'm thinking about prospect park because they have a few different things to take pictures around like the pond and some structures you could pose near. I'm going to look into DUMBO also. Thanks so much!
