Photo Booth - a Worthwhile Splurge or a Waste of Money??

nikki , on January 24, 2011 at 8:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 46

I am thinking of having a photo booth at our wedding reception. I've looked it up online & it looks like it would really be a lot of fun for our guests. The guests would get the typical photo booth strip (remember the one's we took with our friends at the mall or the amusement park?) & the second strip would be placed in a keepsake book that the guests sign with a small message. It's $650 dollars and I am not sure if it is worth it or not. One of my friends went to a wedding recently with one & she said it was a blast and by the end of the night there was a line. Have any of you booked one for your wedding or been to a wedding with one? Help me decide!

Oh my goodness!!! Sounds incredibly fun!!! I would love that kind of splurge.

A way to make it cheaper:

    Make your own backdrop.

Use a polaroid camera or have a portable digital camera printer right there that you could print right on the spot.

I would go the cheaper way ONLY IF you decide not to splurge because that sounds too great!

I'm thinking about it for mine, my photog offers one for 400 for hour 3 hrs, props; and a photog that takes the pics; i've seen samples on her website and they look good..I know a lot of them are way more expensive 400-650 sounds reasonable..how many hours is yours?? ALSO how many guests?? I will probably only have 80..I was thinking it would be worth the cost if I had more guests, more of a variety of photos ya know..then again i'd have to feed them all lol. Hmmm :-)

$650 is actually cheaper than what I've been quoted so far!! But I am definitely going for it, it looks like so much fun and I am also going to use it in place of a traditional guest book. This is one thing I am splurging on and putting my foot down as a must have!

I have heard that they are a lot of fun. I say, if it is within your budget, go for it.

I booked one for my wedding and I am super excited! All of my friends are excited to take their pics. We are getting a CD of all of the pics so I can put them in my scrapbook. I am struggling to decide if I want to let them sign next to their pics that they put onto the page or let them sign strips of paper that I can add to the scrapbook next to their pic. Decisions, decisions!!!

I just booked a photo booth for my wedding over the weekend!! They were set up at the bridal fair I went to and it was so neat!

I like the idea of the guests having fun photos to take home and remember my wedding. The photo booth employees say that can actually be used as your wedding favors... instead of something they're going to eat or throw away.

I also LOVE the idea of them making a scrapbook for you right then and there!! I think its going to be fun for the guests to have something to do and be a great keepsake for them and for us to look back on!!

Thanks girls! It is 650 for 4 or 5 hours. We are trying not to go over 200 or so guests.

Oh ya, like Rose mentioned, we thought about a DIY; but weren't sure how many people would actually pick up the camera and stuff; and i figured the backdrop and stand would be like 100 bucks that I saw; I guess it just depends..on the other hand, if I spend some money on the pro one, I don't want to be stressed that night if it's like standing empty for awhile or I dont' feel like many people are using it. LOL geez I'm pretty indecisive about this! :-P Here are some links from previous posts

I don't really think it's worthwhile or a waste it's about what you wanna do! I think they are tons of fun. I have been to 3 weddings with them and it's fun to be in them and display the pics when you are home. I would get one for our wedding but it's just not in the budget. I don't think people will miss it if they never thought it would be there, so you have to do what you want, after all it is your day!!

@Rose - actually polaroid pics are really expensive. My niece has a polaroid camera and the film is $30 for only 20 pics. I think that is outragious!

I've seen lots of weddings with photo booths! They not only provide you with lots of fun pictures at the end of the night-- they also provide entertainment for guests!

We are going to have a photo booth at our wedding. However, we talked with our photographer about it and they are actually going to create/run one for us. We were originally going to do it ourselves using the program "Sparkbooth". It is not that expensive and super easy to use. They have a free 10 day trail. I used it at a family get together and everyone loved it.

I was entertaining the idea for a little minute, but I think I'm going to to a D.I.Y. backdrop, like Rose was talking about. And you can get some props like silly glasses and funny hats, and people will have a lot of fun. Smiley smile

I'm having one! 650 is actually on the low side of all the quotes that I got. I booked with Shutterbooth. for 1000k we get a dvd of all the pics, the guests get a strip as a favor, we get one which they are going to make the scrapbook for us onsite. Props included for 5hrs. I think its going to be fun. My friends and family are excited.
