Hi. ladies! What are your thoughts about getting a photo book with wedding pictures? Are you planning to get one? Future MIL says it's going to be a waste of money since nobody ever looks at those albums after the wedding, and I don't know, maybe she's right, but keeing all these photos in some digital folder doesn't sit right with me either. The photographer we've found does photo books, too, so I thought about ordering one right away, but then all these doubts about "nobody ever looks at them" came. Wwyd?

I think it's a great idea to have a wedding photo album! However, I wouldn't buy an album from my photographer because they uncharge for their time too. Their are websites where you can compile your own book and have it printer, or just purchase an empty photo album or scrapbook and do it yourself with your spouse.

It's kind of up to you if people look at it. Is it something you're going to have available for people to look through when they come over? My aunt keeps her wedding album out on her coffee table and every time we're over or she has a party someone is looking through it! I love looking at photos/ memories, especially I know the people in the pictures so yes! I think it's worth it! The photo book sounds different, too, so it would be fun to read what people wrote to you and see what you've kept from your big day.

Another question, would it be something you'd regret not having after your wedding?

I ended up making my own album using the digital images supplied by our photographer. I am a photographer myself (I don't photograph weddings though) so am very familiar with photo editing and have a pro print lab I use for my own work. Printing my own album cost significantly less than buying an album direct from our photographer.

I do like having the album and various physical copies of our photos to look at. The album can be fun to pull out when I'm feeling nostalgic, and sitting down with my husband to look at our album feels more intentional than swiping through pictures on our phone. We've been married just over six months and I've probably pulled the album out to look at it 3-4x. I imagine looking at the album on our anniversary every year, and maybe sharing it with our kids one day. I also made two smaller, abbreviated versions of the album for our parents as gifts.

Albums can be really expensive and I couldn't justify spending $500-$1000 on an album, but I could convince myself a couple hundred dollars to print my own was worth it. Album quality can vary greatly, so I'd definitely view samples from your photographer before committing to anything. Our photographer's sample albums and portfolio were gorgeous, but expensive.

I'm not sure I'd encourage everyone to print their own album, because the quality can be really variable and there are tweaks that often need to be made to images to prep them for print (vs just digital display) and it takes experience to do that correctly. I personally have used Shutterfly for prints when testing labs many years ago and was not impressed at all so have never tried any of their other products. Really nice albums just have something special about them, and many of those photo companies designed for the consumer market just aren't up to snuff. There is one company called Artifact Uprising that looks interesting - their products look interesting and they seem to have good reviews - but I've never actually seen one of their products in person to comment so they might just be another inferior photo product company with incredible marketing.

Our photo albums ( not printed) are the only thing that have gotten regularly viewed by us, by guests, and regularly by kids these days. e photos might as well be in a safe deposit box, they are so rarely seen. And after about 5 years we got 120 more prints. Prized are ones with groups, all our friends and family. There is something about sitting, holding them, talking about them. electronic, does not do it for me more than 1 view.

Just photos, great. This, no. At a shower friends presented us with a book of pics of us, space on it for the guests to write and sign any of the pages message spaces. While we were away, they clipped it and asked our photog ( and paid) to print some of our wedding pictures, with guest writings. We looked at it once, put it on he closet, and threw it put when we moved. Neither of us, nor my parents wanted it. Just photos, are great.

We got a wedding photo album, 75 printed copies, a disc, and videography and I have absolutely no regrets.
