Photo book with wedding pictures?

Marina, on December 14, 2020 at 12:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 28

Hi. ladies! What are your thoughts about getting a photo book with wedding pictures? Are you planning to get one? Future MIL says it's going to be a waste of money since nobody ever looks at those albums after the wedding, and I don't know, maybe she's right, but keeing all these photos in some digital folder doesn't sit right with me either. The photographer we've found does photo books, too, so I thought about ordering one right away, but then all these doubts about "nobody ever looks at them" came. Wwyd?

A wedding album? That was a must for us! We look at ours often (we got ours through our photographer).

Well, I can partly agree with your MIL: photo albums are really looked at, it just doesn't happen that often. Personally, I wouldn't get a photo book, because I don't feel like I need that many printed photos, I'm planning to get some of them printed and framed and the others will be combined into a Smartshow 3d video about the wedding with music, etc (we don't have a videographer, so it's kind of 2 in 1). But everyone is different and these are memories, your memories, so why not get them printed if you want it that way? Plus your MIL isn't the one who is going to have this photo book in her house, right? Smiley smile

It's not actually an album, it's more of a scrapbook with quotations and small decorations, and places for our guests to right down some wishes, etc.

Haha, that's true! She just likes giving advice here and there so when she heard about a photo book she went "Oh, why would you even need it?"

Nah your MIL is incorrect to an extent. These are your memories and YOU will be looking back at your album for your entire life! Smiling and reliving your happy memories as you grow old together. And your children will want to see it too if you decide on wanting kids! Etc etc. MIL is correct if she means like just standard visitors. I don’t visit people’s homes and automatically think to ask to see their wedding albums. But your wedding album is for you! Definitely get one, it is so special.

A photo book? No ma'am. I will definitely order prints and put them in this big photo album that I have with a bunch of random pics. Your FMIL is right when it comes to me. I only look in any of the photo albums about once a year. Plus, I absolutely hate pics of myself.

Oh ok in that case I'd skip it. I thought you meant a regular wedding album with just photos.

I’d get it- it’ll be in your house & it’s your $$ spent on it. We’re purchasing the flash drive with all our edited photos but I still want a book. It’ll be awesome to look at on our anniversaries.

MIL needs to keep her opinions to herself since this is not her decision to make. If you're talking about a photo album from the photographer then definitely invest in that. I wouldn't bother with a random scrapbook.

I’m planning to get one, I just haven’t decided whether to get it from my photographer or print through another vendor. I believe my photographer’s start at like $700 which just seems like a lot of money after what we’re already spending!

We got one. We also got prints. We also have the digital copies. The thing about the album is that if someone wasn't at the wedding, we can show it to them and they don't end up looking through 500 pictures. We look at it occasionally, but not terribly often. It is nice to have though - full disclosure: it was part of our photography package.

    I like photo books!

My FBIL and his wife actually got a photobook printed out with their engagement photos and used that as their guest book.

I love the look of a photo album, but photobooks are just cleaner looking and I feel like they preserve your photos longer than a photo album.

    Hi!

Yes we are doing a photo book, I love the idea of being able to pick it up and look at it occasionally.
Plus we thought it would make a great gift for our parents. Smiley smile
Our photographer had (1) included in the package complimentary so we will just add another.

I made a book through Shutterfly. It was a fraction of the price as going through my photographer and still a great quality.
I love it and look at it every month or two. But I love pictures. And have maybe 20 photo albums full of pictures.
It’s also nice to have for the future. Showing future kids, nieces, nephews, grandkids, whoever.

We made a photo book with all of our wedding photos and I seriously look at it at least once a week! It is so nice to have all of your photos (or at least your favorite ones) within arms reach without having to get on a computer or iPad. The money is definitely worth it and not at all a waste.

I did that just because my husband gave me a wedding album as a gift and so i printed photos to fill it. i also made ones for my mom and mother in law. we looked at it a couple of times. i watch my video a lot though but my photos i definitely don't look through much. i think it's a nice little keepsake though especially because it doesn't actually cost that much to make

We're totally going to get one! I still love sitting down with like my mom or brother and going through old photo albums. Even though they aren't touched often it's nice to have. Inviting friends over, leave the book out on the coffee table so if they want they'll pick it right up and go through it. Have kids? They'll love seeing them years later. Maybe a rough patch in the relationship, you two can sit down and go through it together to remember your "why". I think it's a lovely keepsake to have! And you can get an inexpensive one that you print yourself.

We were really on the fence about ordering one because of the price. But when we met with her she brought examples. When we flipped through it felt like we were at the person’s wedding because of the story she was able to tell through the photos. We wanted to have that same feeling when we looked through ours so we could look back on it and even show our kids one day. Even if it’s not looked at often, we decided it was worth it for the memories.

We're thinking about getting one. It reminds us of a hard cover magazine and we'd be the models lol. We love the sleek sophisticated look and it's not much of an upkeep as a regular photo album. We'll just have to see where we are after the wedding before we make a final decision.
