Photo album as a gift?

Pinotgirl, on May 5, 2015 at 4:29 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 15

Me and FH are giving our mom's parent albums from our photographer as their gift but I am wondering is this weird since they obvioulsy won't be ready day of? We are paying for the wedding ourselves, his mom is doing the rehersal dinner and mine the shower. Should I get them something for day of?

Maybe a personal card with a note saying you will be making them personal albums when pictures come in?

I think your idea is perfect. Just let them know what their gift is. For our BP, we got personalized silver frames (the couples' names and a little heart, nothing wedding specific). We plan on printing out a professional photo of them on our wedding day, but we won't have the picture to give them the day of.

    Edited: I like Stephanie's idea!

Thanks, that is a good idea. I know it probably sounds horrible but I don't want to buy any more gifts!

I don't blame you! The picture album probably costs a pretty penny, plus the entire wedding isn't cheap.

I just wanted to share that FMIL basically *demanded* that we buy her an album. I was so annoyed by that because she's not contributing a dime, but has all these expectations about what we should be doing for her on our wedding day. Aaarrgh!!! Anyway, I like Stephanie's idea about the card. Maybe add on a small inexpensive gift to hold them over until the albums, like a pretty picture frame or something like that.

That's what we're doing too. I made each of the parent's a handkerchief that I'll give to them at the rehearsal but yeah, the photo book is their main gift. We'll probably tell them that we've done that in a card.

I don't want to purchase anymore gifts right now either and planned on doing a book for them. Thanks for the idea of a card with a note.

It is a really cute idea. I don't think a gift is expected and I think they will really appreciate the gesture.

I think a special card is very important. You don't need to mention the album in the card, you can just surprise them with the album later!

Do they already have a digital frame? If not, you could get them one of those so they can enjoy your wedding pictures all the time, instead of just when they pull out the album (and when grandbabies come, you can send thumb drives full of baby pics). If you go with albums, a think an empty album with a note promising to fill it would be sweet-- as long as you're sure you'll fill it. Smiley sexy

Its a great idea, and what we're doing as well Smiley smile There's no need to tell them that you're making a photo album for them, when its ready it will be a better surprise. Gifts should never be expected by anyone for any occasion.

We are getting my mom an album as well seeing as she has paid for the majority of the wedding and were eloping so she wont be there to see it all.

We're doing the same for our parents, photo albums which obviously won't be ready until after the wedding. I don't think it's necessary to get them anything the day of, unless you just really want to. You should never give a gift out of obligation.
