Petticoat, hoops or no hoops?

Jennifer, on January 7, 2012 at 11:45 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

OK I promise this is my last post about crinoline!! I have found some crinoline slips that are for A-line dresses, so the picture is my dress, then the 2 that I am choosing between, which would be better? Hoop or no hoop? Advantages disadvantages?

    No hoops.

Hoops will flip up when you sit down. MUCH easier if there is no hoops. Not to this extreme, but you get the idea. With a hoop you would need to lift up the back of the hoop before you sit down so it is higher than the front of the hoop.

*edit, just looked at the hoops, they are low enough that you should be ok. The hoop would help keep the crinoline from touching your legs. Some brides complain that it is itchy.

Both of these ones say that they have a slip under the crinoline to prevent the scratchiness, so that should be ok. also it says that the hoop sare a more "bendy" metal so that should help prevent that a bit too?

So I'm assuming hoops will make it the fullest?

And cute picture! hahah would not want that!!

According to the picture, the hoop-less looks fuller.

But you may not want the Fullest slip... it is all up to you. I think you only needed a little poof at the bottom so the hoop one might work better.

ALSO the crinoline takes some of the length off off the dress, so if it is TOO pouffy, the dress might be too short to wear with heels.

I'm wearing flats because I HATE wearing heels and my FH is only 0.5 inches taller than me Smiley smile

Plus I am having my dress hemmed it's too long, so she can hem it to fit the crinoline. It was actually my seamstress that mentioned it in the first place, I hadn't even considered or know about doing that!

I'm not a fan of hoops, just because I feel like you wouldn't be as free with your dress (like when lifting your dress to show your shoes or for the garter removal or just to pick it up to keep it from dragging if you have to run around outside). For a gigantic ballgown, like you see on My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, they make sense, otherwise I think a full crinoline skirt does the trick quite well. Smiley smile You can always wear a regular slip underneath if you are worried about it scratching your legs.

Hmm good points as well Jen L. I do want lots of fun shoe pictures, because I splurged and bought hand made lace & silk shoes that I am in LOVE with lol!

I'm always a fan of no hoops, and if you want it big and full, then I think go for the hoop-less. It does appear to be fuller. And as Jen says, it does make it easier to handle. Hoops are a pain when it comes to lifting/moving the slip *again, see top picture Smiley winking
