Petite Brides!!

Rachel, on July 20, 2017 at 8:40 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 28

I'm 4'9" and about 105 lbs and was wondering if there are any other brides out there this size or petite and how your dress shopping experience was! I have my appt in 2 weeks but my mom and I are starting to get nervous that nothing will fit/be possible in my style (tight fitted, kind of sexy style. Pics down below for reference). Let me know if any of you have this issue or had a positive experience with it! Thank you!

Oh rest easy! Im not quite that short but a similar size generally. They had TONS of options. They will have to clip them in the back to make them hang correctly but that is necessary with lots and lots of body types. You will definitely need a serious hem on the dress you choose, but you are golden.

I picked a similar dress, but at my size, I really rely on straps. Stuff tends to slide off without them so maybe you could find something similar with a thin strap.

I am 5'1" and about 115 and my experience was nothing but positive. I got a fitted lace dress and they'll be able to hem it down easily. My dress is the Kitty Chen Cora for reference. It's easy enough to take a dress in and hem it, alteration seamstresses are amazing. I tried on a ball gown just for kicks and it literally swallowed me

They will have dresses close to your size and can clip anything too big so you can get a feel.

Keep in mind a dress like that with a huge train is gonna be a lot for you to drag around!

I'm 4'10 and 95lbs and my trips were great! They clip the back so the dress fits. I got a ball gown and it surprisingly didn't swallow me.

You are about my SIL size. Ball gowns did not work for her at all. She ended up with an A-line dress with cap sleeves but looked amazing in a strapless mermaid dress. I will say DB charged her extra for alterations because of height. She didn't get the proper price until after it was already started though. I'm not saying another place would do that but I know she would've appreciated the warning.

4'11 here. Tried on regular dresses but the dress I chose came in petite! During appointments, the consultant would show me where the detail would lay on body after alterations for dresses that didn't come in petite.

I'm not your size but I was amazed at how many sizes they had when I went shopping. But, usually the samples don't fit perfectly when you try them on anyway. Like other mentioned the stylist will help you along the way.

I'm 5'2 115 and it was slightly frustrating. I couldn't find a sample size smaller than a 12 which could fit three of me and needed insane amounts of clamps and people just hold it up to see what it may look like. You just have to ask a ton of questions to the consultant and try to have them situate the dress to hit exactly where it would hit in your size. My dress took six fittings ! Lol but all in all I don't think i LOOKED 5'2 in it ( I had heels on but you know what I mean )

ETA- try and google real brides in a dress you're interested in so you can see the dress on someone who isn't 5'11 lol

Im 5'1" and about 100 lbs, and had a great experience dress shopping. Everything I tried on was way too big, but they pinned/clamped everything to show what it would look like. My dress was a lot more fitted than I evee thought I'd get, although it wasn't as tight as the picture you have. I also bought a sample that was at least 3 times larger than my size.

4'11" here. My dress shopping went better than I thought. I did not even feel 4'11" during the whole experience. I do know my dress needs alterations, but that seems to be normal.

I'm 5'0" but slightly heavier at 145 with a larger bust and broad shoulders so I had no choice but to get a non-petite dress. That made it easier to find styles that fit my size, but difficult to get into the dresses and to really picture what they'd be like at the right length. It'll have to be hemmed quite a bit. I have to start alterations soon. Hopefully they'll go well because I love my train and lace appliqué and am afraid about how much they'll have to cut off.

    EDIT: grammar

5'0" and I had amazing experiences! Everything fit me pretty well but I knew that because of hemming I wanted to stay away from detail at the bottom! Overall though I felt good in almost everything I tried on and didnt feel discouraged at all! Be open to trying things on though as you never know what you may love! I ended up with a dress that was more form fitting then I as expecting!

Nothing but positive! I'm 5'1 & 115lbs. Everyone was so nice and I didn't have a problem with trying on any dresses. All the extra fabrics just got clipped back. Plus the bridal salon stylist wanted to put me in EVERY style just for fun and that was cool Smiley smile

I'm 5'3 106 pounds and my dress is similar shape to yours. I thought nothing would look right on me due to my size but I ended up getting the dress I wanted and I've never had doubts since. You will be just fine Smiley smile

I'm 5'4" and 100 pounds. I ordered the smallest size Maggie sottero and it doesn't fit which I knew before I ordered. Trying on dresses was still great and they just clipped me in to everything. But you will need to spend money on alterations.

I am 5 feet! I found an awesome mermaid dress and the designer was willing to shorten the bodice for me in production so it would fit right for free! (still needed a hem but it made the proportions correct to my body) Go to a local boutique and don't be afraid to ask for things like that!

I am 5'1 and about 115 with a 36DD bust. For me, the biggest issue finding a dress was my bust size not my height.
