My fiance's dog just passed away unexpectedly the day after Thanksgiving. Our dogs are a big part of our life! His boxer and my french bulldog even came with us on our first date. We had our engagement pictures taken with both dogs. They are our babies. I most defiantly want to have something included in our ceremony to recognize our dog. We are having an outdoor ceremony. I thought of putting a picture of him at a table up by us and having the pastor say a little something to recognize him. I would like a unique or different idea. I also thought about setting up a table at the reception with pictures of him and collecting donations in his name for our local boxer rescue. He was an amazing dog and touched so many of our family and friends hearts.

    I would be careful with the rainbow bridge thing; it's beautiful but I would use it as a written card in a frame, not as a reading. Too long and too emotional.

    @Cydney J

    That is beautiful. I'd never read that before. I don't know if this wedding planning stuff has made me more emotional or what, but that actually made me cry.

    Don't listen to anyone who tells you memorials don't belong at a wedding. FH and I have known from the start that we will have one in memory of family who have passed on including his dad and brother), and pets are just as much family as humans. I hadn't thought of including something like this, but I love the idea of rescue fund donations in a pet bowl with their photo.

    @Aidan, I think if you DON'T cry when reading the Rainbow Bridge, you have no soul. ;-)

    And you could put his doggie tags in your bouquet...

    I agree with Celia, I would not do the Rainbow Bridge reading.

    I do like the idea of a charm/tags on your bouquet. Not that this is the same, but, my daughters bouquet (a surprise to her) had her grandfathers ring "woven in to it. It made her feel as if he was helping to walk her down the aisle.

    I send this poem to all of my friends who have lost a pet. I don't think the poem is too long for a reading...it's about the same length as we had for some of our readings.

    Honestly, this is Megan's choice on what she wants to do to honor their beloved pet. but as i stated previously, you can have someone read it OR you can have it sitting next to his bowl for donations.

    I love it too, Cydney, I just wouldn't want to go into that much detail verbally. I would use it as a written poem, and I think everyone would love it.

    Thanks for all the help! These are some really great ideas! I love that poem and will be sure to use it! Thank you for sharing that Cydney! I think I have more direction now. During the ceremony I'll do the pet blessing. I think for the donation table I will do a collage frame of pictures and the poem in it and use his bowl to collect donations. I would like my fiance to have something to wear since our boxer was originally his dog. I like the dog tag idea too. How could I use the dog tag for my fiance to wear or what could I make it into? I guess he could always just carry it in his pocket. I think I would do the bouquet charm with his picture for me. If you come up with more great ideas please keep sharing!

    How big is the dog tag? could your florist add it into his boutonniere? I know this isn't a boxer, or a dog tag, but it give you a simple idea.
