Personalized coaster question

Candy, on August 30, 2017 at 7:48 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

We were thinking about printing personalized coasters to be used during the reception.

They will be great quality so guess can take them home with them!

Because our guests are huge drinkers, (4-8 drinks per person throughout the night) how many coasters do you think I should order? Two per person? Three per person?

Guest count is 140

Thanks in advance!

Honestly? I would skip it. I have never seen a coaster at a wedding, and I doubt that I would use it at home.

My friend had these as her favors and escort cards- name and table number on the bottom, a picture of the couple on the front with "Have a drink on us!" Clever. Both FH and I took ours home, and still use them. Hers were ceramic tile.

ETA forgot to answer the actual question- 1 per guest in her case.

This kind of seems like a waste of money. I wouldn't need it at the reception and wouldn't take it home. I don't want a coaster of someone else's wedding date, that's weird.

I got 2 coasters as a wedding favor at a friend's wedding a few years ago and I still have them but they didn't personalize them. It just has a pretty design on them. I probably wouldn't use them if they had other people's names on it to be perfectly honest. ETA bc I also didn't answer the question: I don't think many people will use the coasters at the reception for very long tbh but if they do 1 per person should do

I would instead of personalizing them have their names on the tops and the table numbers on the bottoms. I would not use a personalized coaster at home. I think its a cute ides but not the personalization part. I think this is very creative but it might be wasteful if its personalized just because people wont want to use that, but their names they will.

EDIT: to answer your question, lol. I would just order one per person. Use them as the Place cards so they know what table to go too. I wouldn't personalize with your names. If you do I would suggest on the bottom.

Well they're right. Personalized anything is a waste of money. Most people like things to be in sets. It's been a general consensus that if it's not edible, it's not worth it. You'll end up bringing them home in a baggie, wondering what to do with them.

And no. I wouldn't use a personalized coaster from someone's wedding. Not even my own parent or sibling.

Is that like a common abbreviation for that?

You can't tell people how to comment on a public Internet forum. I mean, you can, but it kinda makes you look like you're throwing a tantrum.

ETA: I would also never use a personalized coaster from someone's wedding. Save that money and put it towards something people actually care about, like food or drink.

These were what I did as favors. I had them custom made, out of glass. Honestly 1 per person is enough. Not everyone will remember to take one so just order one per person.

I guess I'm a Debbie downer too, because I don't think your guests will use them again. However, if you want to have them at the wedding, do one per person. If they are nice enough that someone could take them home and reuse as you say, people will only need one and can keep them all night.

Also Candy it is against the CG (community guidelines) to tell people not to post on a thread, also you can't tell people how to post. So that comment is being flagged.

What will they be made of? Paper? Glass? Or tile?

My post was not asking about the logic or usage of personalized coasters, it's about how many coasters per person.

A tantrum, no. I am simply asking a question. 90% of the comments have nothing to do with what I asked.

People on this site are genuinely asking for advice or help, but instead of the help they snarky remarks.

If you had toilet paper stuck to your shoe but asked me if there was something in your teeth, should I not tell you about the TP because "it's not what you asked"?

You post on a public forum, you'll get answers. It doesn't matter if it's what you asked.

People are trying to save you some money by telling you that it's acceptable to skip something that will be thrown away by guests or even the wait staff/you'll have a ton left over and will be trying to pawn them off on your coworkers.

Don't listen to those people. A lot of people loved my favors but mine are not personalized and I think that's a key point. Make it a true gift to them rather then a souvenir.

@OP several of us have also said that if you are doing these favors 1 per person is enough. Again, coasters were what we did for our favors, and our guests thought they were cute. But again, not everyone will remember to take one so just order 1 per person and you'll be fine.

I will word my response a bit differently in order to answer your question and provide input.

If you do this, order one per person, you will not need more than that. You will have plenty left over as many guests will not take them because they either do not need them, do not realize that they are a favor, do not want something with your name and date on it.
