Period on Wedding Day

Melanie, on March 6, 2020 at 8:57 AM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 14
Okay this might be TMI but I got my period a week late due to stress I’m assuming and now my prediction calendar is showing I’ll be starting the day before my wedding! Ugh. I’m hoping the stress pushes it back but if not, how can I not ruin my dress??

Do some really intense exercise like 2 weeks prior to the wedding. That will usually push it back a little.

If you’re on birth control you can delay your period safely, just check with the doctor. I’ve done it a couple times.

Unfortunately, I’m not on BC. Haven’t been since I graduated college cause I couldn’t afford to pay $70/month. Just got to trust my body apparently 😭

    Just wear a tampon.
You'll be fine. I'd rather have my period on my wedding day than my honeymoon haha

But changing a tampon in a ball gown?! Also, we aren’t honeymooning till our 1 year. Our wedding is a week long beach trip (getting married in OBX) so it might as well be the worst time to get it.

I think it's really your only option? A pad would be messy.
Do you plan to use the washroom at all on your wedding day? lol. At some point you will be in there anyways to pee... just change the tampon! My friend wore a ballgown on her wedding day and just took the whole thing off when she went to the washroom.

Hi! Do you live in the US? The BC pill should be free. If you have time to get on the pill, you could and then alter your cycle using it. When we picked our wedding date, I used the pill to change the day my period would fall so I wouldn't get it on my wedding day/honeymoon. You could also go through different websites to get it (ex: Nurx)

I would try a menstrual cup, you can keep those in for 12 hours. I made the switch from tampons to a Diva cup almost four years ago and I'm so glad I did!

My period started the morning of my wedding. Good job body. lol.

I wore my modi bodi period panties and didn't have any real troubles. At the end of the night I discovered I'd leaked a tiny bit onto my undershorts but nothing got on my dress and I'm sure if I'd worn the heavy day pair there wouldn't have been any problems (I had to wear light day pair because the heavy day pair is black).

You could always wear pad on period panties for double protection.

Do you live in the US? By law, contraceptives must be covered by your health insurance. Even if you don’t have health insurance, you can purchase some OTC contraception. If budget/money is a serious concern, I suggest visiting Planned Parenthood or a similar nonprofit women’s health clinic. They provide health checkups, gynecological exams, and birth control to low income women at no cost or on a sliding scale based on your income/what you can afford. There are many forms of birth control that can alter your menstrual cycle so you won’t worry about bleeding on a white dress!! I made a period calendar for myself and booked my venue and date based on it, lol.

I had my period during my wedding and was initially very worried like you, but it ended up being no big deal. I told my day of coordinator ahead of time and she carried around my tampons and made sure that I put a new one in every 4-5 hours or so just to be on the safe side. I did have a large dress but my MOH and other bridesmaids helped hold it up while I did the deed. Not a single drop (sorry TMI) got on the dress whatsoever. You should be fine as long as you have people to help hold your dress up while you're switching into a new tampon

Look into Flex. It’s a menstrual disk. You can wear it for 12 hours.
