People don't RSVP or read the invite (rant)

heidi, on September 8, 2014 at 9:32 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

Our RSVP deadline has passed and we have about half the people to track down. I've had a few who admitted to losing the card or just kept forgetting to get it in the mail box. Also, I can't tell you the number of RSVPs we've gotten back with no names on them whatsoever, even though we asked people to put their names on them if they were attending. Forget numbering the cards before sending them out, just write their names on the back. Seriously. I wish I had; it would have saved me so much confusion.

Also, no one seems to even read the invite. I can't tell you the number of people who have asked when and where the ceremony/reception is. It's the on card! Don't tell me you lost that too?! Do I have to come to your house and pin it to your fridge for you? We also made a wedding website. It's had a grand total of 7 visits. When the website comes up in conversation, people ask "You have a website?" IT'S ON THE CARD! Don't make me hurt you!!!

This. We're having our wedding in Ohio and I can't tell you how many people think it's in Chicago (where we live). Umm... nooooo. Did you even READ the invitation? We also have an option to RSVP online. We keep getting more hits to the website, but no more RSVPs. How difficult is it to just put your name in, click "accept or decline," and press submit? We're not asking for a lot in exchange for free food and booze, here, people.

How about this - my Dad's cousin RSVP'd right away and then drunk-dialed my Dad later in the week asking which of his kids was getting married. My Dad called him back and said, "When you sober up, read the invitation."

We got one back where the couple wrote their names but did not check if they're coming or not! For now I put them down as coming, but after the deadline we'll call and verify!

I told my mom about the website, which she of course had no clue about. I give her a pass because she already knew when and where everything was, so she probably didn't think to read the invite. But she's been talking with family members and putting their RSVPs into the website for them. I hate that she has to do that. People shouldn't need their hands held for this. Just READ the invite and send in the darn card! It's not that hard!

OMG! I really do not understand why grown ass adults cannot read or keep track of a piece of paper.

We have 5 meal options and our RSVP card says "Please initial the meal choice for each guest." We have people responding with the whole family and putting in numbers next to the meals. Great you want 2 chicken and 1 beef but who the eff wants each one?!?! Now I have to track you down and ask what food you want to eat! Its not that hard people!

    A thousand times THIS.

I've had my grandmother call on behalf of her nieces and nephews (80% of whom she said weren't coming... guess who are making the trek over the Verrazzano now...) asking what time the cocktail hour starts... it's right below the address of the reception card...

We also had a couple use the M in Mr & Mrs to spell their name (Morales). Too bad it's the Spanish equivalent of Smith!

That's so frustrating. I feel like properly filling out a wedding RSVP isn't rocket science. We've just started getting RSVP's back, so we'll see how difficult our guests make it for us.

Good god this. so tired of repeating myself that it's on the website. i am now expected to be everyone's effing secretary. This is why I didn't send out STD's... no one reads them.

I'm looking forward to the invites going out so I can repeat the process /sarcasm

That is horrible. Your guests are horrible. SHAME!!! Ours weren't so bad. Our website has 160 hits and while we did track down a few RSVP's, had a couple people request to bring a friend or children, or had people ask about our website (which was also on the invite), we really didn't have much of a problem.

I wrote the names onto the RSVP cards FOR people. It solved that problem. Except in a couple cases where there were 2 Andrews I forgot to write last names (but at least they both RSVP'd yes).

Either way, I feel for you. People suck.

OMG! I frickin LOVE your SomeEcard!

Yea that's how I felt. We had to track down about half too and ended finding out that they were sent and we just never got them. RSVP postcards were the WORST (for me). The kept getting returned to sender. Then I had few that came with no name or no meal selected. Then my silly cousin asked me is filet mignon was fish. Really? LOL.

I numbered my cards so I would know who they came from if they forgot names.

My cards said I wanted them back by Sept 5th. That way I have the rest of September to wait for the late ones and track down people. I need my head count by September 29th.

I put postage on mine to make it easier for everyone. But apparently its still hard to write your name, check yes or no, put how many are coming, and toss it in a mail box.

I even have bridal party families not returned. Its like I know the person in the BP will be there, but what about their SO/children...

Here's the funny part. I made RSVP postcards to save on postage. I had 1 person remove my stamp and put a different, more expensive one on. Also had someone put my postcard in an envelope and mail it back that way! LOL

Yup...my deadline in September 12. I am missing RSVPs from half including most of the BP who all have kids so I really do need them to respond so I know if the kids are coming or not.

Website has over 200 hits but only 1 person used it to RSVP and that was after I told them about thr website, which is listed on both the invitation and the RSVP card noting the online RSVP option. And still chasing down rehearsal dinner RSVPs.

Thanks for posting this so I can rant too!

I made sure I wrote everyone's name on the RSVP who was invited. I wasn't taking any chances of people not writing in their own name and then I don't know who's coming.

I wish I had thought to write people's names. Everything I read said to do numbers, but names would have been much more simple! Then again, I forgot to number some cards so ...
