Payment for weddings in other countries

Katelyn, on August 12, 2023 at 2:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
Hello! I live in the United States and booked a venue in Greece. I'm wondering if anyone else who has had a destination wedding outside of the country had any tips or advice on how they send the payments. For the down payment for the venue I went to my bank and got a wire transfer but it was $50 and honestly I don't want to have to pay $50 every single time we send them money 😮‍💨😮‍💨 any advice would be appreciated!

You may see if you can get a credit card in Greece. It is recommended you find a card by a worldwide credit card company but one with a headquarters in the specific country. Contact large banks over there via email to let them know you are an American making the request. And be ready to convert any financial figures into their monetary units.

Also, see if PayPal could be used to make payments or if they have a credit card to work in Greece. Bitcoin is another option some places might accept.

The company Wise made it really easy to transfer money when I lived abroad.

I've heard of that, but wasn't sure it was safe. I'm glad to hear it! I'll look into it for sure. Thanks!
