Paying the Photographer

Kelsey, on June 26, 2015 at 2:28 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 21

We signed a contract with ours a year ago, and made a deposit. She told us that we wouldn't have to pay her anymore until after the wedding and we received our photos. I'm hoping this is accurate, it sounds right. But I'm worried the day before she'll demand her money and then not show up lol.

Is this usual that the photographers get paid after you get your photos back?

Some do it that way, some request payment two weeks before or on the day of. Its really a level of vendor comfort, and client comfort.

As long as you have a signed contract out lining who gets what, when, for how much... and you are working with a reasonably established vendor... I would think you should be fine.

All of our vendors have to be paid at least 2 weeks in advance of the wedding.

Ahhh okay... in NS I think more photographers are offering to be paid after receiving photos because a couple years ago there were more than 3 photographers who asked to be paid beforehand and either A) never showed at the wedding or B) never gave the photos to the couple

We have paid a deposit, then our largest payment to him is due 2 weeks before the wedding and then a small amount is due after we receive our photos.

We paid 1/3 deposit and the rest is due 2 weeks before the wedding. For pretty much all of our vendors. Our venue needs a headcount 30 days prior so they're the exception....

We interviewed one photographer who would've been paid in 3 pieces: the deposit, 2 weeks before, and when you get your pictures afterwards. I'm not sure how common it is, but she did it that way.

I already paid my photographer in full. But the last payment being due 2 weeks before the date is pretty much the norm for all vendors.

We had to give a small deposit and then pay a large portion, which basically included everything but our album about 2 weeks before the wedding.

That's funny, ALL our vendors say the day of is good or 24 hours advance (all with deposits though prior though). Just our photographer said after we get them, we did give her a deposit already and paid her for our engagement photos.

I don't know anyone who would photograph a wedding without being paid in advance. Some *might* accept cash the day of if there were extenuating circumstances. And none would give photos before getting paid in full because that's their only leverage if you decide you don't want to pay. Very very weird to be paying after getting your photos.

Our videographer is having us pay half up front and half after we get our video. Our photographer is paid in full 30 days prior to wedding.

I'll be paying mine off the day of the wedding. We had to put a $100 deposit down, which is extremely low.

We paid a deposit and then monthly scheduled payments were due with the exception of 25% which is due upon delivery of product.

Ours was set up like yours and we paid a large amount once we received the photos. I prefer it because it ensures that they are motivated to actually get you your photos. Apparently there has been a significant amount of fraud.

Ours we paid a deposit when we signed with him and then we pay the remainder the day of...he is a friendor though (FHs coworker), so if we don't pay him he 1. Knows where FH works and 2. Knows where we live and visa versa if he doesn't get out pictures to us lol

We paid half at booking and pay the other half when we receive the photos. I guess it depends how large of a "deposit" you pay.

I wouldn't think this is how most vendors do it, but that may be something they do to make you trust them more? Contract, contract, contract. Check to see what exactly the contract says about payment.
