Paying Entire Cost For Venue Upfront?

Courtney, on June 2, 2016 at 9:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

I just received the contract from the site where FH and I are getting married next year and for the "deposit" we have to pay the room rental fees entirely $1,000 toward catering (we have to use the in-house caterer--which is fine). It just seems odd to me that we are paying ALL of the venue rental fee right now....but I've never a signed a venue contract so maybe it's not that weird? Any insight would be appreciated!

Ours is semi-inclusive (of venue fee and food), but the deposit to reserve our date was $1500. May be form over substance?

We left a $3000 deposit and then there was a payment schedule. We don't have to pay in full until the Wednesday before our wedding.

We paid a 3,000 dollar deposit to hold the venue and just paid the remaining balance the other day. I would be asking for a venue contract

We had to leave a $1,000 deposit when we booked and then another $1,000 at the 6-month mark. The rest is due 1 week before the wedding.

Our venue is pretty inexpensive the total cost to reserve the areas we will be using for our ceremony and reception is only $1,100 so maybe that's why it's all upfront? Then there is the catering deposit which is fine--$1,000 is reasonable as a deposit for what I've estimated we will spend. It's just confusing because it says a second payment will be required and due 60 days prior to the wedding. Since we are already paying the entire venue rental balance the only things left to pay for would be for AV/Sound operations and catering (which I hope has an entirely separate contract).

We paid half of the total estimated cost for our venue up front and the other half will be due the week before the wedding.

We paid $2000 deposit, 25% of our estimate is due in July, another 25% due in October and the balance (with final guest count) is due 12 days before the wedding.

Our deposit was $1000 and the contract stated that an additional $1000 was due at the 9 month mark, which we got waived since we booked at 9 months. There may be additional venue fees like security, liability insurance, etc. that will show up in the contract.

I don't think it's weird. We had to pay the rental fee in full, we don't pick our meals until 6 months before and costs depends on what we pick. Final payment is 1 week before the wedding.

We were only required to pay half of the rental fee, and an additional refundable security deposit on top of that.

With our semi-all inclusive, reception room, ceremony/chapel, food and drink, we had to make a 25% deposit of $5k, the remainder is due 10 days prior to wedding, but saw the contract/signed contract first prior to giving our deposit.

Thanks everyone!! The contract we were sent definitely needs some more specification (at least in my opinion) so I'll still be talking to my coordinator to see if we can make that happen. I guess I thought paying for the entire venue upon signing the contract was strange because I had read so many places about the staggered payments that many of you mention BUT our venue seems very cheap compared to most of the ones mentioned so perhaps that's why :-)

We were required a 2k deposit and we need to pay installments every couple months. I think that is normal.

We also had to pay the entire rental fee (before taxes) upfront. Then we owe 50% of estimated catering costs 6 months out, and the balance 10 days before.

We paid a $2k deposit which is the cost to rent the room. We have to use their in house catering so we will pay for that and the open bar before the wedding. So essentially we have already paid for the room in full which I believe is fairly normal.

I paid 1600 for the deposit, the other 1600 is not due till a week before the wedding however I don't like stressing about owing money to anyone so I paid another $1000 so I will only owe $600. Which I plan to pay by July.

OP - since your contract states both an upfront pay-in-full *and* a 60-Day Balance, it may be easiest just to call the venue and ask. We paid a $1000 deposit, then another $1000 six months before the wedding (we have a short engagement, so it was literally six weeks after the first one LOL). Our balance due is within a week of the wedding, but I've been paying monthly to keep the final balance from giving us both heart attacks (I hate writing checks with a lot of zero's!)
