pay cash for dress?

Becky, on February 14, 2014 at 3:20 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I am ordering my dress from a local shop this weekend. I had planned on paying cash (it is actually a bridesmaid dress and is only $180), but after a detail in another post am wondering if I should pay with my cash/check/bank card. I'm not sure if that actually provides me any protection (or is not an actual credit card) anyway. Between those 2, does it matter? We pay cash for wherever we can, but don't know of that is a good thing when ordering a dress

I don't know what protection paying with a card would give you that a written receipt would not give you.

Some credit cards do offer protection though but its only 180 so i wouldnt worry. if it was over 1000 i would think more about it.

The only extra protection you get by using a card is shopping online. Then you can dispute the charge if you dont get your item. However, buying in person, cash is fine.

Do not pay cash. Put it on a debit card so that there is record of the sale so heaven forbid something happens you have proof of purchase.

Credit Cards do provide you a lot of protection. Most cards provide their own warranty if a shop goes bankrupt or if they don't follow through with delivering your purchase; which can be a big deal if you drop a few thousand dollars at a small bridal shop! Although for $180, I think you are fine paying cash. I paid all of my vendors on credit cards, so that I can have the extended warranty that it provides...plus I like the points! Then I just pay the whole thing off each month so there are not interest charges.

Agree with Abby-- put it on the card and then pay off the balance to your card right away. It will be an additional record of sale, and if some reason your dress never comes in, or there is a problem, you can dispute the charge with your credit/debit card if the store won't honor the receipt.

Yes. Put it on a card and since you have the cash, pay it off. For the reasons stated above.

I paid for mine with a debit card and walked out the door with it. I don't care if the shop goes out of business. (Well, I do, but it doesn't affect me).

Thanks ladies. The only card I have is a debit card where it is drawn directly out of my bank account, so the paying immediately is happening either way.

As long as you get and keep your receipt, you will be fine.

I wasn't aware that the business was going under, if so, go somewhere else. Otherwise it's only $180 bucks, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
