Password protected wedding website?

FutureMrsB (Aussie Bride!), on August 25, 2011 at 7:40 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new here, as in, I got engaged all of 8 days ago! I'm doing my wedding website up, and I think it's a fantastic idea, especially since we are having a two engagement, so it will keep everyone in the loop in the lead up, if they want.

Anyway, I have password protected the website and am planning to give the website address and password out on the engagement party invitations.

I've already had a comment about trying to be "exclusive" by having a password. The reason for wanting a password is that I work in Child Protection, and unfortunately, some clients will try to look you up on the internet and do threaten your family. I just want to keep this information private so we can enjoy our big day.

How has everyone navigated around organising the password and keeping everyone in the loop?

I wouldn't think about NOT having a password, so ignore the "exclusive" comment. We just included that information with the invitations. We had a separate *wedding notes* sheet that contained stuff like the website, accomodation information and such. And congrats on getting engaged!

Congrats! And ignore the comment. We did the same thing. The guest list (RSVP function) isn't protected otherwise. Random people could go online and try names (first OR last) until they found something and could RSVP yes or no for your guests. Nuh uh. No way!

Ignore the comment. I'm doing the same with my wedding website. You just never know who is going to come across your page that you don't need there.

    And congratulations on your engagement!

I password protected my website as well. I put the website address and password on the travel details printout that went out with my invites.

I also requested their e-mail address on my RSVP's so I can inform them when we update our website.

    Congratulations on your engagement!

Congratulations! And like the other ladies said, ignore that comment! That's crazy. There's no way I would want all of that info just out on the web for anyone and everyone to see. We are having a DW so we did STDs. We put the info on there. I don't know how we'll do it yet for the invitations. Probably do what Mrs. S did and have a separate sheet with some pertinent info on it. Happy planning!

Congratulations on your engagement. I would ignore the comment as well. My fiancé and I are having a small ceremony and reception (50 people). Although we know a lot of people and have large families combined - we simply could not afford to have a huge wedding. So we created a website and shared it only with those invited.

There's nothing wrong with using the password protected feature, so do not feel uneasy or guilty. Have the event YOU want and how you want it. If people truly love you, they should and will understand. Smiley smile
