Party after intimate ceremony

Johnna, on February 12, 2020 at 3:32 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5
Hi everyone! We want to do a small intimate ceremony in northern mn with only parents, grandparents and siblings. 14 guests total. We then want to have a party at a later date just to celebrate and see everyone we love. My question is about the party. It would be after October so we were going to rent a venue for about 175 people. Has anyone done this? Do we just do apps with a bar? Should it be a buffet? Do you think people would be okay with getting together for a party without anything special? The other option is to wait until next summer and have it outside as a come and go laid back get together but I didn’t know if that was to long in between events. HELP

Depends on the time of day. Anything after 5 you need to give ppl an actual meal. If it's earlier in the day in between meal times you can definitely do just apps and wine or champs. A bar is a must for an evening get-together and that makes you lean more towards a meal or ppl will be queezy.

Has anyone done this? My husband's stepbrother and his wife did this. They eloped in Jamaica then had a reception with family & friends when they returned about 2 months later. We also have friends doing this in May. They are eloping in the morning with immediate family (about 10 people total) then having a reception later that day at a hotel with a larger group.

Do we just do apps with a bar? If it's not during meal time, that's fine. But if it's a true reception and longer than 2-3 hour or during a meal time, a full meal should be served.

Should it be a buffet? A buffet is totally fine.

Do you think people would be okay with getting together for a party without anything special? A reception is still a wedding celebration, I would think people would treat it that way!

My FH cousin's did this the had a ceremony in Aruba and then came back and had a reception party a month or two later.

They had an open bar, buffet style dinner, and a popcorn bar. There was probably only around 50 people though at the reception.

We totally enjoyed it, we were planning on going to their ceremony in Aruba but i got engaged shortly after their announcement. A lot of people actually enjoyed the reception since they couldn't come to the actual ceremony.
