Weird question, but to save costs we are looking at using either paper or plastic plates for our wedding reception, because our venue isn't normally a wedding venue and would be hard to wash everything. I have found some plates, cups, and silverware that look real and have great reviews.

So my question is for the ladies that have gone the paper/plastic route, did you set everything on your tables like normal place settings? or did you just let your guests get them when they get their food? We would have dinner plates, dessert plates, champagne flutes, and normal cups.

I know its a weird question, but it has been stressing me out, so please be kind.

I got those white plastic plates I've heard about people using at weddings for Christmas dinner. They were great! We ate outside and they remained stable with no worries of blowing away. One of the neices even said she was worried about using them because they looked expensive, which was super adorable.
Now, if we do disposable plates it's likely to be the wooden ones, because they fit my vision better, but you should know that rented plates do not have to be clean for return. They need to be scraped and stacked. You don't need a kitchen, or even running water.

"However the opinions here aren't really that reflective of "most people" since the CG's prevent the ability to disagree." hahaha @Spaghetti you're my hero Smiley heart

And how surprising that OP leaves when she sees not everyone is validating her self-catering plans.

I do think some of the comments on this post could be seen as rude. Not everyone has real plates at weddings, and her situation seems quite unique in terms of catering. It amazes me the nitpicking of weddings that happens on here. It's for advice, yes, but there's no rule that all weddings must be the same. If she's thoroughly thought decisions through which it seems like she has, leave it alone. There are exceptions to the "rules" and I think it's about time that some of the "regulars" learned that. I can't tell anyone how to post, but I can tell you that comments can shed a negative light on your screen name everytime it's seen from here on out.

Sorry, I don’t think that’s true at all that the new CG’s prevent people from disagreeing, have you read any of the threads about honeyfunds?? LOL! People were still calling them tacky, panhandling, etc., without getting in trouble. I think you can still disagree with someone’s opinions, you just can’t personally attack them.

Anyway, of course most weddings are formal (personally mine going to be quite formal), but OP’s situation seems unique and I was just saying that I don’t think most people care a great deal about something like the types of plates at a wedding. Sure they would probably prefer regular plates, but is it really that big of a deal to have nice paper or plastic plates at a wedding? I don’t think so because lots of people on this thread have posted pictures of very nice settings with paper or plastic plates. In any case, I didn’t know she was going to self cater when I wrote my prior posts (I guess I should have picked up on that, lol!). That’s a whole separate issue and could definitely be much more problematic than the type of plates she uses for the reasons already stated by others in this thread.
