Overly generous

Married52113, on April 18, 2013 at 1:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

So FH and received our first wedding gift... Let me start of by saying I don't feel comfortable getting gifts. I never really have- except from mom and dad of course, they can buy me stuff everyday but back to the point- it was a check for 500.00 from two people at work, who aren't even invited to the wedding. I am so thankful they told me not to open it in front of them, because I started crying when I saw it. I just can't get over the generosity and it almost makes me feel uncomfortable.

I mean I told everyone please don't get us anything, we are having a small DW, blah blah blah... I don't know is it wrong to feel bad about getting an unprovoked gift?

You didn't ask for it so simply write a sincere and meaningful thank you note. They wouldn't have done it if they didn't want to.

One of my parents' neighbours, who I also know and babysat her daughter gave us a wonderful scrapbook for our wedding. She was not invited to the wedding. It was such a wonderful gift.

We also received a few cheques from my mom's aunts and uncles who were either not invited to the wedding or who could not come, due to health and distance.

Some people are just so thoughtful and caring and want to make your day and your new life with her FH that more special. Helps to balance out when you get negativity and drama from others.

No not wrong, most ppl who feel obligated end up getting you the cheap stuff just to say they got you something. If they gave you that they want you to have it, just be super thankful and appreciative to them and enjoy Smiley smile

Well I just talked to my mom about it. One of the guys is Filipino and I guess this is a big part of their culture as it pertains to weddings (so I am told). I do have a very thankful letter to start writing Smiley smile

LOL...what a beautiful gesture. They are just showing their appreciation for you and giving you a gift to reflect their well wishes for your future. I think it's lovely.
