I'm watching SYTTD and this episode is focuses on brides who fall in love with over budget dresses. Sometimes the bride's friends are pulling dresses that are overbudget, and other times the brides can't get a certain dress and/or style out of their mind so they try on dresses that are overbudget....

I'm watching SYTTD and this episode is focuses on brides who fall in love with over budget dresses. Sometimes the bride's friends are pulling dresses that are overbudget, and other times the brides can't get a certain dress and/or style out of their mind so they try on dresses that are overbudget. Most of these girls are going for the overbudget dresses. One bride doubled her 7k budget and bought a 14k dress!!!! I don't mind people paying a ton of money for their dresses if they can afford it but I can't imagine doubling my budget for just a dress (although it is an important one).

Did you go over budget? By how much? EDIT for spelling.

I almost went over budget by about $600 but went back and found a very similar dress that was just exactly on budget. The similarity between the two dresses is amazing. Plus I got my dress at a trunk show so it wound up coming in just slightly under budget, about $150 less.

My mom bought my dress for me. It was over budget but we both fell in love with it and it was exactly what I wanted! When trying on dresses, I kind of steered away from my initial vision and when we saw this one, we knew it was the one! We got a $330 discount on the dress...just because (guess it was the perfect day to walk in), and I think my dress was $3,300. So, the ending price was $2,970. I paid for alterations, which were $185.

ETA: I gave my mom a budget of $1200 initially, but she told me to not worry about it and find something that I love.

I have come in under budget so far (too early to start alterations). My budget for the dress itself was $1500. My dress was $999 and they took off $100 since I bought it that day, so $899, with taxes it came to $1062. We budgeted $300 for alterations. Since I'm $500 under budget with the dress I have a little more leeway there.

Definitely keep in mind the additional cost of special undergarments (if necessary), alterations, tax, veil, and other accessories (which can equal the cost of the dress).

I tried on one over budget dress... thankfully it wasn't the one lol. The dress I chose was actually almost $2,000 under budget.

My budget Was $2500. The first dress I tried on I fell in love with and it was $2000. I didn't think anything could top it especially being under budget. Then 10 dresses ever I topped it and knew it was the one. It was $2800 but I got so caught up with emotion that I told my mom and older sister that it was the dress. By some incredibly generous miracle, my sister surprised me by swooping in and paying for it!!! So... Technically I came in under budget by $2500 Smiley winking

    My dress was over budget.

I went in with a budget of $1500. Found a lot in that range, narrowed down a style. My consultant comes up and tells me: "Sweetie, I have a dress that meets everything you are asking for... EVERYTHING... but I won't pull it unless you are okay with considering $2200. I won't even show you."

My mom tells her to go ahead and bring it out. Try it on. That lady knew what she was doing. It was PERFECT!

I then Hmm and go over budget in my head. $2200 -was- a bit much. I couldn't decide. Left it for the day. Get a call from my mom to come in and try it on again in a few weeks. So we go, try it on again... It's perfect.

That's when my mom gives me an envelope, and I open it up, and fell to the ground balling in the studio.

My grandfather passed away before I got engaged. He was supposed to walk me down the aisle. In the envelope was the money I needed for the dress with a note that said: "Love Grandpa" in it. He'd given money to my mom before he died so that he could buy me my wedding dress. I'm crying as I type this

Mine was right within budget, but after alterations probably at the top end of it. Dress was $1,300, budget of $1,500. I think I probably had a little more wiggle room in there because every time we went dress shopping and I'd say $12-15 to the budget question, my grandma would try and say something and my mom gave her a little smack on the leg lol. I just could never justify spending more than that though, and turns out my grandma is a sweetheart and planned on paying for it the whole time! Smiley smile

I specifically went into the dress process looking for something under $500. I waited for a sale cycle at DB and did some homework. I went in with 5 dresses that I liked and refused to try on anything else. Luckily, one of the 5 dresses was on sale for only $299! After veil, headpiece and preservation kit, the cost came to $575. I was very pleased overall. I have very minor alterations so I do not expect to have to spend much more for that and undergarments. I think that SYTTD is blown out of proportion at times and some of the girls make the choices they make just to be included in the episode. Just my opinion, I do enjoy watching the show! My budget was $1000-$1200. At the first store everything was under budget EXCEPT the one dress I loved. It was $1495. So I decided to think about it since I had another appointment the same day at a different store. Ended up finding my dress at the second store and it was only $750. I was quite pleased with the price!

I just couldn't imagine spending 4 digits on a dress that would be worn once. Which is why my budget was under $1k. Came in under budget at $500 (found a 1k dress that was on sale actually .,,) Smiley smile

How can someone just spend )14k on a dress ? Don't tell me she's having a "small intimate " wedding also.

My alterations cost a whomping $25 Also. Just needed a bustle Smiley smile Totally scored on my attire budget. We did go over on our caterer though Smiley sad

Wow! $14,000 would have been more than the cost of our whole wedding.

But then again, the dress was one of the least important parts of the wedding to me. I suspect that most of our guests wouldn't have remembered exactly what style of white or ivory dress we wore five minutes after they left. My preference would have been just to wear a nice dress I already owned. NotFroofy wanted an actual wedding dress, and I wanted to coordinate with her, so we did end up with wedding dresses. But they were definitely low end dresses, $450 each.

My dress was $500 under budget, but then alterations were $400 (I was expecting a little less) so its all evened out.

I thought I would be ok with my initial budget, then quickly realized every single gown I liked had a much higher price tag, so I tripled my budget.

With that being said, my dress price is not affecting any other aspects of the wedding, and I'm not in debt because of it, is already paid in full, so why not Smiley smile

I came in under budget. I had a $2,000.00 budget, I chose a Casablanca for $914.00! I happened to like what isn't trending.

I started with a budget of $1500 that included alterations, ended up lowering it a little to $1200, and then raised it back to the original budget when the alterations came in at more than expected. lol. I also decided to add a veil and buy new shoes (I was originally going to skip the veil and wear shoes I already owned). As far as I'm concerned, I stayed on budget and paid cash on top of that. I'm happy. Smiley smile

I actually didn't have a budget but figured I would try to stick to the $1K range; fell in love with a gown that was either $2,300 or $2,500 originally but ended up nabbing it for $1,800 thanks to a trunk sale! I'm paying $500 for alterations.
