Overbudget dresses SYTTD

714HBLady, on August 16, 2015 at 12:23 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 59

I'm watching SYTTD and this episode is focuses on brides who fall in love with over budget dresses. Sometimes the bride's friends are pulling dresses that are overbudget, and other times the brides can't get a certain dress and/or style out of their mind so they try on dresses that are overbudget. Most of these girls are going for the overbudget dresses. One bride doubled her 7k budget and bought a 14k dress!!!! I don't mind people paying a ton of money for their dresses if they can afford it but I can't imagine doubling my budget for just a dress (although it is an important one).

Did you go over budget? By how much? EDIT for spelling.

My dress was the only thing that came in under budget! My first shopping though I did pull a dress and love it, but it was $900 over budget. Luckily, I left and went to another store and found a dress I love so much more.

I am always in awe of the brides on there that go way over budget... to me, that says that they never had a true "budget" to begin with OR it was just edited that way. I have a budget and will be sticking to it no matter what. I just don't have the extra money to even think about trying on more expensive dresses!

$200 is manageable though :-) For $7k I could buy a used car!

I didn't really have a dress budget, it was just more of what I was comfortable that day and what I fell in love with. FH said to spend what I wanted and that we'd end up cutting elsewhere if needed. After alterations, long line bra, dress and slip I'm right at around $1,300.

I haven't done alterations or accessories yet but I went in wanting to spend $3k on everything, and my dress came out at $1.1k, so I am thinking I will be at least under 2k for everything.

Technically I doubled my budget for my dress. But going from $1000 to $2000 is nowhere near as big a jump as you see on SYTTD, and it just required taking a little off the top of a few other things. $7000 to $14000??? How do you even have $7000 for the dress to begin with...

@amandajeffrey, that is definitely a much smaller jump. I would love to have an extra 7k just laying around...

I was watching that episode also last night. I may sound like the cheapest person in the world but I didn't buy my dress the day I fell in love with it because it was $49 over budget and that didn't include tax and alterations which would have put me even more over. It was the second purchase and I had already gone over the venue budget by a lot. Lucky for me the dress went on sale a few weeks later and I came in $200 under budget after taxes. I'm thinking with alterations I'll be right at budget.

Originally I was thinking I didn't want to go over $1200. My mom told me she wanted to buy my dress and could spend up to $2500. I told her no way are you spending that much on a dress! My dress came to $1450 after taxes. It also needs very little alterations. I'm happier it was closer to what I said was an acceptable amount. Technically I was under my moms budget though.

I came in close to $600 under budget not including alterations. Selling the unwanted first dress helped.

5K budget, $3400 dress. Add taxes and alterations, I ended up about $400 under.

I guess I'm the odd ball out here...I went over, thanks to my mom and sister! The dress I got was on the mannequin when we walked in the store, and I didn't want to try it on because it was $1,000 over...but we got a 20% discount at the store because it is owned by the same guy FH bought my ring from. After I tried it on, we knew it was the one and I honestly am so thankful that I DID go over budget because it is very "me". With taxes, my veil, sash, and alterations, it will come out to be about $2,600.

I was one who doubled my dress budget. Not by 7k by any means. I went in looking to spend $500 for a full length dress, alterations, and accessories. I was told at a few stores, including DB, that I pretty much couldn't get what I was hoping for out of a dress in that budget. So I upped my budget in order to get exactly what I wanted and ended up spending about $1100 on dress, veil, sash, alterations, and shoes. Didn't need undergarments. I couldn't be happier with the dress I bought and have zero regrets. In the end, we have only be coming up about $300-$500 over our overall budget so I didn't do too much damage.

My mom got my dress for me. After our 1st time shopping she called to tell me that she was raising my budget from 2k to 3k. When we found my dress at Klienfelds it was one of the rare times they had a sale that wasn't a trunk show so we got 15% (basically tax off) with alterations my dress came out to about $3500. I'm so glad my mom raised my budget because I couldn't imaging wearing any other dress! But it would not have let her spend more than that! I find it insane to spend 7k on a dress you'll wear for one day

@714HBBride I tried that dress on and loved it! I went dress shopping for the first time yesterday and did not think I wanted a fit and flare or anything close to it because of my hips. I thought I wanted a ball gown.. My consultant put me in that dress and it made me fall in love with that style. It was between that and another one but I ended up choosing the other. You look great in it. Gorgeous choice!!
