Outfit change at reception

Yue, on April 23, 2018 at 8:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
Hi WW community,

My question about outfit change is not really whether to change but when to change...

i have bought an Elizabeth Fillmore wedding gown that i absolutley love. It’s in organza silk wi cascading flowers down the side and in the back with a beautiful train. My mom has also gotten me a silk red ankle-length traditional Chinese dress for the reception. Sidebar- it’s quite common for brides to do multiple dress changes at weddigs in China.

I love my gown and would really like to wear it for the first dance, and also want to honor and appreciate my mom’s gift by wearing the red dress.

Here are the questions:

Can I do the first dance during cocktail hour? And then change into the red dress when announced at the reception?

Can I change back to the gown again at a later point? Believe it or not the wedding gown is actually more comfortable. I can raise my arms all the way up and the side slit isn’s all the way up to almost my butt like the red dress :’)

Would love some perspective from everyone!

I think it would be a bit confusing to have the first dance and then later be announced. Shouldn't the announcement happen before you enter for the first dance? Sooooo, you would need to wear the gown for the entrance and the first dance. If this happens during cocktail hour, you could then slip out and change into the red dress and come back for the father/daughter and mother/son dances if you are having them, the toasts, dinner, etc. If you want to change back into the gown, do so sometime during the dance. Would any of this work for you?

I know you said your dress is more comfortable but would it be possible and wait to change into the red dress for the “party” portion of the night? Do all your formal dances and stuff in the wedding dress then change when the dance floor is opened?

Ultimately this is up to you and whatever makes you comfortable. As a guest, I think it would be bizarre and confusing to do the first dance during cocktail hour. Maybe change into the red dress after all of your formal dances? If I was you I wouldn't want to waste time making multiple outfit changes. The night goes by so fast anyway!

Once you change out your gown... you don’t hop back into it later...
