Outer Banks Advice

Ciera, on July 30, 2019 at 1:01 AM Posted in North Carolina Planning 1 4
We are planning to get married in the Outer Banks, NC next September. We cannot seem to find any beach houses in our wedding budget for our “venue.” Our goal was to have a ceremony on the beach and then have our reception at a beach house that we’d be renting, directly after the ceremony. Now looking into it, you have to book special event homes which on top of all the other fees they charge you a $1500 event fee. We have under 50 people and thought an $11,000 wedding budget would be plenty, but now it’s looking impossible and I’m getting very overwhelmed. If anyone has had this experience or any suggestions I’m open to anything! Thank you!!

    Hi Ciera Smiley smile

    Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

I’m sorry to hear you’re getting overwhelmed trying to find a beach house venue.

Where have you searched so far? If you haven't already, I would definitely recommend you check out Airbnb and VRBO!

If you decide not to go with the beach house, you could always find a waterfront or beach wedding venue which will give the same vibe. On the WeddingWire venue directory, it’s possible to filter by ‘beach wedding’ and ‘waterfront wedding’. I’ve started a search for you - Outer Banks Wedding Venues. You can narrow this down by different filters including capacity, amenities, etc.

I’d recommend getting a house large enough to accommodate everyone, but not listing the number of guests. I ran into the same thing when booking our cabin in Western NC and found that if I searched by number of bedrooms and only accounted for 2 guests it was much more affordable. I found my cabin through VRBO but then searched for the house through Google and found the property management company and saved $400 by doing that!

I thought the same thing, ceremony and reception at the house will be cheap. But alas, houses that were big enough charged upwards of $2500 for an event fee! I ended up booking an event house but cost an arm and a leg.

Have you checked out Twiddy? They have lots of event home for a lower price!
