Outdoor Weddings - Did it rain?

Lynnie, on September 21, 2015 at 2:47 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 19

I attended a gorgeous outdoor wedding in Maine this weekend, and the weather was perfect! Which got me thinking....

I've attended 5 outdoor weddings this year and it didn't rain at a single one!

What is your personal experience, have you ever been to an outdoor wedding where it did rain?

My cousin's wedding was outdoors at a museum last summer, but she had a backup indoors. It rained all week but cleared up the day before her wedding which was perfect for her rehearsal dinner (also outside!). Her reception was both indoors and outdoors.

I've only been to one other one outside but it was in an open pavilion outside, so it technically would have been ok if it rained. It was cold, but they set up heaters. Their reception was indoors though, which was good.

I had one that DOWNPOURED. We thought the tent was going to break. Mine was a perfect day, and the one i went to this past weekend was lovely as well.

I only attended one outdoor wedding other than my own. Both times the weather was great.

It didn't rain at my outdoor wedding, but it did at my sister's. Luckily, the rain was so well timed that nobody got wet. It POURED while we were in the church, but the skies were blue and sunny when we left. Then it rained a couple times during the reception, but the tent held up well.

Every other outdoor wedding I've been to has been gorgeous.

I'll be watching the weather channel and looking at their app at least twice a day. The second it goes over 60% chance of rain... I'm renting tents. This is my biggest fear, but what I fear even more is not being able to accommodate my guests properly.

I've been to one where it began to drizzle, but never rained. They are calling for rain this weekend, so I'm nervous but FMIL bought a tent so here's to hoping ours won't be a cautionary tale of outdoor weddings!

I've seen a few where the weather was just gorgeous. My ceremony will be outside. I'm praying for good weather

I attended 4 weddings this summer and 3 of them were outdoors. It was sunny and hot for all of them!

Even though it's still early for this I JUST looked at the weather for my wedding day. So far it's high of 79, partly sunny with a 10% chance of rain. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way or gets even nicer!

I went to one where it rained shortly before the ceremony. It was delayed, and when the storm passed the venue staff ran around drying off chairs! At another outdoor reception (church wedding) it POURED and was windy. Worst and only rainy day this past June here in NJ. There was beautiful weather at all other outdoor weddings I've attended, or there was no way it could be outdoors so the indoor option was used.

Our ceremony was outdoors. It rained all morning, cleared up just in time for the wedding and ended with a double rainbow.

I was at one fall wedding and it stormed and rained horribly the entire day and it was very cold! Luckily the ceremony was in a church and the reception was at a hotel, but I just remember it being so unseasonably cold that it was freezing in the church. We all had to stand out under a veranda to blow bubbles when the couple left and I only had a lightweight jacket. We actually drove to a gas station and grabbed hot coffee before we went to the reception.

It briefly drizzled at the outdoor wedding I attended last October.

I went to two outdoor weddings this summer, plus my own outdoor ceremony. All were lucky with no rain. But the July outdoor ceremony was extremely hot and uncomfortable. 30 minutes sitting in direct sun, in dress clothes in 90+ degree weather. It wasn't fun. Rain isn't your only concern. Make sure to have a backup plan for all extreme weather- heat, cold and rain.

Our wedding day we had overcast for ceremony and pictures, come dinner time

..holy downpour sept, 2015. We had tents, but we also had a tornado in the area, so the reception moved indoors, we had 15 guests..

The forecast for our wedding was thunderstorms throughout the day! Luckily, the rain completely held off! Outside was overcast, but that helped with pictures and keeping the heat down. We saw a little lightning in the distance once, but it blew past. I was more than relieved!

The forecast is really iffy for us on Saturday. All weekend long it was showing 70%-80% of rain all day on Saturday. I'm really nervous. First thing this morning, I rented a tent. Come home tonight and FH says the precipitation chance has dropped significantly. At least now I know we are prepared for rain and hoping for sunny skies- cross your fingers!

My baby brother (a mere 30....) just got married last month in Vermont. Outside ceremony and reception (thank goodness there was a tent for the reception!). The ceremony was beautiful on a sunny day. Thunder started during pictures/cocktail hour, the downpour lasted *quite* a while, and guests had to traipse through a drizzle to the reception. My poor step mother (his mom) is broken hearted cause we had only gotten pictures of the BP when the rain started-- I don't know where the photog went-- if she hid in the garage with the BP or ran up the hill (about 100 yards) to the house, but there were no posed family pictures taken. Really too bad, cause we are very rarely all together.
