Outdoor Wedding May 7 - obsessing about the forecast in 3, 2, 1.....

Lori, on April 13, 2016 at 2:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

Yes, we have a fall back location, and a plan for when and how we will call it for rain, if we have to, but it is of course not our first choice.

Accuweather now provides forecasts as far as a month into the future, so I now have this page loaded on my computer all day, every day, and I obsessively reload it several times a day.

Anyone else having weather angst?

Oh boy. Now that I know this...

I'm also having major weather angst. Our Engagement party back in July, we had torrential down poor... My bach party a couple weekends ago, super cold and rainy. I really hope crappy weather for those events means good weather for the shower and wedding day!!

They sure provide the forecasts early, but they are NOT accurate. Take it from another bride who kept herself up at night agonising over the weather. Don't do it to yourself. This forecast will change EVERY DAY!

    YES!!!!

We're getting married on the beach in FL. I don't have a back up plan really... I just keep saying it's going to be a perfect day because it's our wedding day!!! AND pray the Rain Gods don't show up!!

Actually, Kristy, they are based on climatology (cumulative history) for that date, so they are sort of like the almanac. They aren't worthless (good for temperature ranges, the overall likelihood of rain, etc.), but they are not very good until much closer, of course.

    But I can't stop looking. Can't. Stop. Looking. :-)

I checked it everyday constantly. It predicted rain the entire week.. And then our wedding day was sunny and 75!! Don't stress about the weather until a few days before lol...

OMG I did the same thing before mine as far out as it would give me and we obsessed over it. It said drizzle in the morning and it was spot on. By the time our wedding came, it was done. Who knew they could predict accurately that far out!

It can be based on anything.. Im telling ya that forecast will change every day for the next month and drive you nuts! lol Mine was calling for thunderstorms all day pretty far out... it changed a million times, and I ended up having sunny weather (thank heavens!!) Sometimes the forecast even changed from morning to afternoon if I checked twice on the same day.

I know its hard not to obsess over.... Try not to stress out too much Smiley smile

I check allll the time, and I still have 6 weeks. I don't even know what I'm expecting to find since even the weather for this weekend keeps changing.

Yes! I just added your link to favorites. Woohoo! Sunny and 79! The rehearsal dinner is scheduled on our patio and the fall back plan b would work but isn't what I'm hoping for either. The wedding is scheduled on a covered patio but I would hate to see the bride with goosebumps in her strapless gown.

I strongly recommend Weather Underground. They give hourly forecasts 10 days our that are pretty accurate. You can also adjust the settings on their "full forecast" graph to show "feels like" which takes into account wind, humidity, dewpoint etc to give an accurate assessment of comfort level each hour.

They also have weather history - you can see the weather on your day going back over 20 years! I totally stalked my date on there before signing the contract.

Living in New England I would be too stressed out trying to plan for an outdoor wedding. Just the other week it was in the 70s and sunny and then two days later it was snowing! I'm trying not to think about the weather because you can't control it!

I check every day too. I'm driving FH and mom crazy with the roller coaster. It goes up, it goes down, it develops a thunderstorm. It's incredibly inaccurate. Their projections are based on their simulations that have all kinds of error that increases exponentially the further out you are from your date.

That said, I totally get you. I want my outdoor ceremony too! Smiley smile

Forecasts aren't even accurate a week out usually. Shoot. On Monday, they were saying it was going to be a washout here yesterday and it was stunning! Sunny and 70. I understand the intense desire for nice weather on your big day (I'm right there with you), but I refuse to look at a forecast until about 4-5 days ahead and even then will take it with a grain of salt.

I was literally just looking at the weather. My main concern is THUNDERSTORMS, not rain. I've already bought 12 clear umbrellas, and made it clear on my website that the ceremony will take place outside rain or shine. I just don't have a plan for lightning and thunder... *fingers crossed* for the both of us

I don't trust the 3 day forecast let alone a 30 day. But....I can't say I haven't checked to see what they are predicting.

I don't believe the meteorologists unless it's the day before.

My wedding is 5/7 also! We are getting married on a covered deck. If the weather is REALLY bad, we can move inside. According to that website... the weather for my area will be 71 with an overcast. I'll take it! I am buying some clear umbrellas just in case it rains.
