Outdoor wedding - Gravel Aisle

Melissa, on August 7, 2016 at 12:49 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

So our wedding is going to be on a farm and the ceremony will be outdoors. I love the venue and love that there's a gravel path that creates a beautiful/natural aisle (see picture attached). I'm wondering if I should get an aisle runner to put down on the section I'll be walking down, simply because I'm afraid my dress will get dirty and then when I bustle it up afterwards there will be dirt all on it. Has anyone else run into this issue? I honestly would rather not get the aisle runner, bc like I said, I really love the natural look of a gravel aisle...but is it worth it to then be walking around with a dirty dress? I'm not sure what to do. Maybe it won't get as dirty as I expect?

Aisle runners can be a hazard. Slipping on them or tripping on it especially if it's gravel. I don't have any other suggestions as how not to get dress dirty though, maybe ask venue coordinator what brides have done in the past?

    The venue looks gorgeous!

I would maybe call your venue and see what they suggest? If that is the or one of the normal ceremony locations then I'm sure they have seen how other brides have done it or their concerns. Just a thought! Personally I would not go with a isle runner. I mean you'll also be in grass so I don't think you can really save yourself from potential outside dust or grass or whatever!

    Edit: your venue is beautiful!

Aisle runners can definitely be a hazard, but so can gravel--particularity if you or anyone else walking on it will be wearing heels.

I'd skip the aisle runner, and avoid wearing heels. I'd also somehow put on invites or info card something to the effect of "ceremony will be outdoors on gravel and grass, please choose footwear appropriately"

Your dress will get dirty, but it should only be the underside that has contact with the ground. That part isn't visible when bustled.

I say do it without the runner. Your venue is gorgeous! As pp's have said ask the venue.

Also, maybe you can have someone hold your train as your waking down the aisle. Just a thought.

Thank you ladies! Yeah I think I'm going to pass on the aisle runner. I did mention on the website that we'll be on grass and gravel and suggested people choose their footwear accordingly. I for one am wearing flats Smiley smile
