Outdoor wedding fast approaching, possible rain, no back up plan

Miranda, on April 10, 2014 at 11:04 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

Ok, here are the facts; I cannot afford a back up plan, the wedding is in my very small backyard, all indoor venues in the Dallas area are outrageous, what should I do if it rains?

Definitely look into renting a tent. Even if it is out of budget, putting a tent on a credit card is way better than having your wedding rained out.

You could rent a few small tents. You could also order umbrellas for your guests in bulk, if that's financially an option.

I'd either have it inside your house, rent a tent, or try and find a church hall you can rent for cheap

Do you have a garage? A basement?

Try to wait out the rain? Seriously, if you can't afford any kind of backup plan, there's not really anything you can do. . .

Are there any church halls or fire halls that would be available at a low fee on an as-needed basis? I think that would probably be cheaper than trying to rent a tent.

BTW I changed the date, dunno why it said that :-/ the garage is not an option, the motorcycles make it smell awful. I was thinking about tents, however, I am not too sure where I would stake them down.

If you have ever been to the DFW area, you know there is nothing cheap. my church rents out its area for 2500 for just two hours.

If you rent from a tent company they can be several hundred dollars...You might start calling around and checking on prices.

I mean, what do you want us to say? If you can't afford tents then you obv have to have it inside. Or get married in the rain.

We can't fix this for you.

That's the risk of an outdoor wedding in April - it's very likely to rain this time of year. As others have said, your best best is to look at renting a tent. Don't worry about where to stake it - tent rental companies do all that work for you. But it will cost you a few hundred dollars.

If you can't afford a venue, don't have a house to have it at, and can't stake town tents your kind of just left hoping it doesn't rain. Good luck! Hope it all works out for the best.

I live in the DFW area and there are a ton of affordable chapels and venues. My ceremony is in Fort Worth and our reception in Dallas. We're getting married outside in a garden/courtyard setting in June, but our back-up plan is the main Chapel on the grounds. It was $850 for 2.5 hours.

Your only option is purchasing tents. How many guests and what's your budget? If you can't afford tents then look into getting married at the courthouse and just celebrating at home or just get married in the living room - plenty of people have. Plus, you have two weeks till the wedding - it might not rain at all and you worried for nothing.

Walmart sells a large, rain proof canopy (18 X20) for about $320.00. The reviews are good, and people did say they successfully used the product for an outdoor wedding. I have no idea how large your wedding is, so you may need more than one. Even if you need two, $650 is a lot cheaper than a $2500 tent rental.

If you're on a tight budget, this would be the way to go. Good luck.

I'd be finding a way to make the smelly garage work. I looked into backyard wedding and tents in Indiana and tent was gonna cost me almost $1000. Have you contacted local VFW, American Legion, Eagles, Firemans building, city park pavilions, city park with covered patios, Knights of Columbus, Community centers. There's lots of options that can be affordable if you know where to look.

^^ What Suzi said! Think outside the box.

Most VFWs and whatnot aren't very pretty but it sure beats being rained on!
