Outdoor wedding Cake = bugs?

Does anyone have any cheap DIY ideas for keeping bugs out of our cake when its outside? Did anyone previously have a problem with bugs and their cake/desserts or is this something I shouldn't even worry about? My friend is making the cake and I don't want bugs to ruin it.

Lavender is a natural bug repellant. Maybe you can have some around the cake as well as a cover or something? And I believe baby's breath attracts bugs so keep that away lol

I put a frownie face but I'm actually kind of glad I can use that as an excuse for not having (expensive) real flowers at my wedding.

I read this yesterday and went to Amazon and ordered a netted "bed canopy" that hangs from the ceiling. It was $5.49 with free shipping (but from China, so I'll see it sometime in June!).I also have a tent, and they have a lot of support structures in the ceiling you can use to hang lighter things. Since my cake table is in the corner, I don't anticipate problems. If it doesn't hang right there, I'll move the table. (:

I agree cover it with tulle or netting and design something to hang it off of.

These tulle photos people posted look really pretty. is the area where your reception is known for bugs? what does the event coordinator there say? I had an outdoor reception at a botanical garden and the idea of bugs didn't cross my mind and they were never an issue. you should definitely ask the venue, caterer/baker what they think.
