Outdoor wedding appetizers/snacks

Mary, on April 29, 2020 at 2:36 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Hey everyone!

I’m struggling with how to set out appetizers or snacks for cocktail hour? We are doing a largely mexican food theme because we met working at a mexican restaurant in college. I just don’t know how to set this out looking pretty and elegant and not like a kids birthday party or something?
Do any of you have suggestions for what to serve and how to serve it? Theme is rustic/minimalist/modern

Your caterer should handle setting up the buffet. As long as they don’t put out sombreros and tacos made of construction paper, I don’t see the display being an issue.

I think your reason for doing Mexican is super cute! There are lots of ways to make your food setup look elegant. I think the #1 thing is to have nice serving dishes for everything, not aluminum trays or plastic. You could use glass, wood or ceramic serving bowls and use trays or cake stands to add variety/texture. Little signs for each item is a nice addition.

Are you serving the food yourself or hiring a caterer? If you're working with a caterer I'm sure they could make suggestions. Pinterest has a ton of cute ideas. I typed in "Mexican food wedding" and found the pics below.

I have worked for a caterer in the past and finding out the host's colors/theme is definitely part of planning the set up. So just let them know what you are thinking and they will be able to figure out the display (although, to me, rustic and modern are pretty much polar opposites, so that might be confusing!) .

Most caterers can do this easily. There are countless photo galleries on catering/restaurant websites and Pinterest that don't resemble a kids' party in the least. Honestly, as long as the food is good, I wouldn't worry about it or overthink.

Some nice ceramic bowls and platters that are colorful. I’d steer away from sombreros but you could do colorful table cloth even Mexican blanket if you have one. If you. An have more than one table with different food that would be cute. Add some greenery or flowers, maracas, candles, etc.
