Outdoor wedding and ushers?

Anna, on February 3, 2017 at 6:22 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Do you guys think it's strange to have ushers for an outdoor wedding? I have a brother and two male best friends that I wanted to include in the wedding. They would wear whatever they want. I would just get them a boutineer and maybe list them in the program and they would greet people/hand out programs. I didn't want to ask them to be bridesmen because I already have 6 bridesmaids. Smiley smile But my question is if that's strange since it's an outdoor wedding? I could just leave programs in a basket instead. I've only ever been to church weddings so I can't really picture it.

No, it's not strange. Not necessary, but not strange either.

DH's brothers were ushers at our outdoor wedding. They escorted my mom, step-mom and the grandmothers down the aisle at the start of our ceremony. You can let them wear whatever they want or have them match what the GMs are wearing. Our ushers matched the GMs.

@Ellsy are they just greeting people and if you're having programs, handing those out?

@Celia Oh yeah, I definitely agree that it's not necessary. I just wanted to include them in some way and this is what came to mind. I still may not ask them but I wanted to at least get a feel for if it would be strange. Thanks!

I'm not doing programs. They will just greet people I guess. FH wanted to include them so that's how we're including them.

Definitely not strange. We are not doing ushers but if you want to give your brother and friends a special position I think making them ushers is perfect.

My 3 teenage brothers are the ushers at my outdoor wedding. 2 will handout programs and escort guests to their seats and 1 will drive the golf cart bringing the older people from their cars to the entryway of the ceremony.

I'm having ushers for my outdoor wedding who are helping to direct cars parking in an empty lot behind the stable we're using and assisting handicapped and elderly guests who may need some extra help. They are also all escorting someone in during the ceremony. I think ushers are great no matter what because they can direct guests who are lost or can assist those who need accommodations.

We are having an indoor wedding but I don't think we will be having ushers, there will be under 75 people there.

I don't think that it would be strange. Most outdoor weddings are set up the same as a church with an aisle and seats on either side.

As a disabled person, it always warms my heart to see when the host/hostess thinks about the extra help/accommodations /comfort some guests may need Smiley smile
