Outdoor Wedding and Reception at Alki Beach

Brittney, on March 13, 2012 at 11:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 11

Im a little undecisive and in need of some advise--My fiance and I are trying to be a bit thrifty and do not want to spend a whole lot of money. We had set out to get married (ceremony and reception) at the Alki Beach House in August, and the pricing for that is roughly $1400 for 6 hours. Thats ideal, however for $535 I can rent out this park area for a half a day, with tables catering fee in all. Since we are getting married August 26, 2012 I figured it will be warm enough, and I too wont have to spend a ton on decorations. And there are shelters provieded

Has anyone ever did there wedding and reception outdoors? Ive attached some pictures of the area. We were going for a very laid back summer wedding, so---what do you all think?

We did our reception and ceremony outdoors at a state park. It was beautiful!

However, if the weather had turned, we did NOT have a back-up plan, so that could have been bad. I would say go for it, but have a plan in place in case of rain.

I'm very familiar with the Alki area and while beautiful, I just want to give you a few warnings. If you get beautiful weather down at Alki that time of year, the beach will be a madhouse. I believe when you rent the tables through the Parks and Rec, you get the space but there won't be any ability to keep your wedding party seperate from people that are just hanging out on the boardwalk. Plus, there's a decent amount of space from the shelters and the actual beach house. Most of the time when I see weddings going on, everyone stays somewhat confined to the beachhouse and the area directly around it. If you're thinking of having the ceremony outside the beach house, be prepared to have a lot of random people in your pictures. For ceremonies I'd recommend using the small park that's further towards Salty's and then using the beach house for the reception.

Awwww Julean, that was gorgeous!!! Absolutely beautiful! I too agree--weather is a trip! The weather would be on my mind all the way to the day of!

That looks like Colorada in the background--I ask that because I did a geography project in college about there park in Colorado, and all the beautiful sandstone landmarks.

Stephanie--thank you for the advice. I agree my heart is set on the beach house, and I already have it booked too--I was just looking for an alternative to save money. And your right I really dont want random people surrounding our wedding.

I have a small-medium guest list of 50 or so people, and I do want my guest to be comfortable, so maybe the beach house isn't so bad for the amount of privacy im getting!

The weddings that I've seen at the beach house have all been really pretty - you really can't beat the location (I love Alki). In the summer, it's a pretty popular space to get booked so I'd suggest stopping by on a Saturday afternoon and see if you can catch a glimpse of how others are utilizing the building. I'm not sure if you're serving alcohol but I'm pretty sure you can't have any outside of the building anyways. Your guests will be able to enjoy the whole area w/o you needing to rent the seperate space as well. If anything, I'd say try to convince someone to get to the beach early and save a fire pit for you! Of course I'm partial to smores Smiley smile

Awwww Stephanie your sooo cute with the smores!!! thats really adorable. Yes there is a $500 fee attached to the price of the venue if Im serving alcohol--and $250 if Im not for the damage deposit.

I already have it booked for my set wedding date--its just a matter of paying it off. I didnt want to fork out over $1000, but Im learning that itll be worth it in the end!

I love Alki Beach, its gorgeous & one of my favorite beaches in the summer! Seattle weather is all over the place but generally August is one of our best months! I also love Stephanie's idea of the smores, so cute! I would for sure get the beach house for the privacy. Alki beach during the summer is crazy packed! Oh & I love your wedding date (its my birthday)! haha Smiley smile

My venue was Slide Rock State Park in Sedona, AZ. They are known for their RedRock cliffs in that region. Absolutely gorgeous all year round!

The ceremony was in the old Apple orchards, and we were able to get some great pics at the old farmhouse as well. We tried getting permission to do the ceremony in the yard of the farmhouse, but they wouldn;t let us. it was still a great venue for our wedding. I loved the contrast of the bright green trees against the red rock cliffs.

    I love Sedona!

Awww Mrs. Wilson---you are adorable. I for sure am going to do the Beach House then--you couldn't be more correct. Alki is busy busy.

And thats so cool, we are getting married on your bday..i actually picked that day because it was the closest I could get to commemorate my mothers bday which is 8/21---I wanted to do a tribute to her not be here with us, while I get married sorta thing.

And Julean. Your wedding was so nice--even if the weather was a bit "weathered" you both still made it work. How lovely!
