Outdoor Venues -- Don't do it!

LisaKitty, on August 23, 2015 at 5:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

Here is my piece of advice to all future brides. If you are considering an all-outdoor venue for your ceremony, don't. I thought it was such a great idea, and we specifically chose the time of year most likely (historically speaking) to have good weather. However, it has proven to have been nothing but a stress inducing nightmare. A month ago, I was worrying that it would be way too hot, and our guests would be passing out from heat stroke. A week or so ago, things got really bad here in WA state due to the drought, and I was dealing with the possibility of our venue literally being on fire. Now, 6 days out, and the forecast shows 60% chance of rain and thunderstorms on our wedding day. Yeah, not a happy bride right now.

Oh no that sucks do you have a tent at all? Is the venue willing to supply tents just in case?

That sucks, did you are your venue not come up with a plan B?

I'm having an outdoor wedding but I made sure the venue had a plan B before booking them.

Plan B always has to be as comfortable as Plan A.

I would just say always make sure there is a back up plan for bad weather. I had to rule out one venue because there wasn't a back up site. The weather was actually the only thing I didn't stress about since I couldn't control it. Fortunately we were blessed withh beautiful weather. I'm sure your day will 've great no matter what, but I hope you have nice weather. The forecast could change between now and then. Try not to stress too much.

Yeah I think it's safe to say not having any type of backup is a bad idea. My venue had a bunch of outdoor choices but we decided to do everything indoors from the get go because I didn't want to spend two years envisioning something and then have it not work out the day of

This is why we have a back-up plan - we will have an enclosed tent with heat or air if it is too cold, too hot, rainy, windy, etc. I am sorry but you have to be a complete idiot to plan for a totally outdoor wedding and not anticipate weather issues.

We ended up with a 90% chance of rain and thunderstorms on our wedding day. We didn't get a single drop of rain or any clouds all day! You may get lucky like we did.

Pretty sure anyone who decides to have an outdoor wedding should understand the risks and have a backup plan. You can't control mother nature. If you can't make peace with that, then I agree, have your wedding indoors. But, I know I'm rolling the dice on the weather the day of my wedding, but I wouldn't want to get married anywhere else. Thus, we have a tent backup. Simple as that.

This is exactly why we chose a venue that had an indoor option as plan B. There was no way I was going to risk having an outdoor ceremony with absolutely no back up plan!

We have an outside venue. The dining area is inside and the wedding is on the patio. In case of inclement weather we can move the wedding into the dinning area. I couldn't be happier with my location; Grand Superior Lodge. They have been helpful and kind from day one. I think the choice of outdoors varies by couple and the venue, but I don't think I would enjoy a wedding where I was trapped inside the whole time. I actually kinda hope it rains after the event because I think that would make great pictures even though I hate being wet.

I've attended two outdoor ceremonies; Florida, the first week of October, and Penna., the first week of June. Although the weather was clear, it was boiling hot and we thought we'd have heat stroke. We had to move a chair into the shade, for my grandmother, and then she couldn't hear anything. For the one they also served the cocktail hour food outside. I.e. wilted vegetables, mushy fruit, sweaty cheese, soggy crackers, etc. For the other, the main meal was served inside a barn with no A/C, or fans, and they didn't even open the windows. If given the choice again, I wouldn't have attended either.

That does suck! I had to be totally OK with my backup, as Texas in December can range from 40s-80s! I even had cute rain picture plans. Luckily my day was gorgeous, and I hope yours is too! Don't be afraid of outdoor venues, just have legit backup plans

I'm in Seattle and have been stalking the weather all week. We have a backup plan but it's supposed to all be outside. I'm trying not to stress because I can't control the weather but it totally sucks

I do have a backup plan, but no, it is not ideal. And to those of you telling me I'm an idiot for having made the choices I did, thanks a million for the helpful insight, but I'm more than aware of that already.

I hope it will be fine! We just had our outdoor wedding and I was kicking myself for not having a plan B, but it turned out to be a gorgeous day, not too hot, and no rain even though it rained the day before.

Well this is just silly. It's not "don't get married outside," it's just making sure you have a backup! Hopefully everything works out! You still have a week for things to change!

Always have a back up plan for rain, heat, snow and cold. The weather forecast changes all the time so don't really worry until a day or to before then make the decision to use the back up plan.

We are having an outdoor beach wedding and I can't wait! Like others have said, to reduce the stress and nightmares you have to have a backup plan you are comfortable with. It will all work out!

We had an out door ceremony with a plan B in case mother nature was acting up. The weather had a high probability of rain all day and guess what it ended up being the perfect temperature with no rain. Lisakitty don't worry too much about it right now, just have a back up plan just in case.

I'm south of you in Tacoma, and I just want to say I hope you stay safe! What's happening in WA right now is so scary. We really need some rain to help with the fires. Just remember, rain or shine your wedding will be great! It's about your love and commitment to each other!
