I live in Florida, and my wedding must be in the summer due to jobs and schedules. The venue I've selected has a romantic gazebo in the back for ceremonies. The downside is that there are no accommodations allowed to make the gazebo feel cooler. My wedding is a Sunday so the earliest start time is 11:00 am, but in Miami, the heat is still brutal. The other option is to do the ceremony in the same exact room as the reception. Unfortunately they don't provide room flipping services; so the ceremony will be held with everyone sitting around the circular reception dining tables, which doesn't really have the formal feel I want.

Is it worse to have my guests outside in the gazebo heat for the 20 min. ceremony, or to have them sitting around dinner tables during the ceremony? One is better in the beauty of the gazebo, the other is better for comfort.

Edit- Thank you for the advice; inside ceremony it is. Remember we're all here to learn; let's be kind in our advice.

I live in South Fla. Please don't do this to your guests. 20 mins is a long time in the Florida heat. And take into consideration guests arriving early and sitting in their seats (unless you have a plan for them to hang out somewhere inside until right when the ceremony starts).

Have it inside, even if you are the center of attraction it would be appreciated if you also consider the comfort of your guests. Smiley smile

Fiancé bae- your line of thinking is extremely inconsiderate. Some people with health conditions and elderly cannot be in the heat. Please think of your guests and their comfort.

Absolutely voting for inside on this one I've had the unfortunate pleasure of being in the Miami heat in July and even five minutes is brutal. Keep your guests comfortable and sane they'll thank you for it even with the reception tables around them.

I agree inside is better. I've been to a wedding where we watched the ceremony from our tables due to rain. It was still beautiful.

OP, this venue is already booked? Just curious if you considered the heat and time of year for your wedding when picking an outside location...

Venue is booked. I just have to make the choice between the two types of ceremonies they offer. It seems that inside will be best. I just need to figure out a way to make it so that the people at the back tables aren't obstructed by the people in the front tables.

@Fianc-bae You've obviously never been to Miami in July.

OP, trust me, have it indoors. Don't make your guests suffer.

Oh ok. My sister's wedding was set up the way you are thinking. People just turned their chairs around for the ceremony. May not be what you imagined but I would turn my chair around any day over sitting in the heat.

Kata, I was at a wedding last month that had everyone seated at their tables during the ceremony. They basically had two sides of tables (on each side of the aisle) and about five outside.

They didn't have a seating chart, so our group of friends ended up sitting outside. Because of this, we were standing in back during the ceremony, so I can't speak for people's view! But I didn't hear anyone complain and the ceremony was so quick, I didn't mind standing.

Another vote to an inside wedding. I've sat at a dinner table during a ceremony before and it was just fine. You can take pics outside in the gazebo for the look you want in pics.

I've been to Disney World in Orlando during the summer, I had never been to Florida before and didn't know what to expect. After being outside for literally three minutes in cool clothing my underwear was DRENCHED in sweat and sticking to me. Ew. My makeup was melting off my face. My hair wilted. I was miserable. Imagine that feeling x15 in your wedding dress, or as a guest in a cocktail dress and heels. No thanks.

Wow everyone, she asked for opinions and I shared mine. I was born in Miami and my family is from Puerto Rico, so yes I have a little bit of experience with this heat and I still agree with what I posted.

I thought this was a place to be helpful and share. I'm new here, thank you to those of you who attacked, it makes me feel so warm and fuzzy about this community.

Kata, best of luck to you on your special day. Whatever you do I'm sure will be lovely!

Florida...July...according to you, "brutal" heat. What's preferable? Sitting in the brutal heat or sitting at a guest table watching the ceremony at a reception table in an air-conditioned environment?

Can I be honest? I don't like the feeling of sweaty underpants and bras. In fact, I detest that feeling and want to escape and climb into a cool shower. I also hate worrying about my blouse or shirt having dark sweat stains because my body is trying to prevent heat stroke by passing as much fluid as possible. I don't like worrying about what that dried sweat might smell like after an hour in the air-conditioning. I don't relish the thought of my feet slipping in my shoes because of sweat. My hair? It will become separated, thin, and limp if I have straight hair. If I have naturally curly hair, the heat and humidity will cause it to frizz. Either way, I wasted the money I spent at the salon. My foundation has sweated off, leaving tiny paths on my face left in the wake of my forehead sweat. My mascara is under my eyes because mascara doesn't like a steam bath.

I took the time to dress and make myself look my best for your wedding. Please, honor that and have your ceremony in a climate controlled environment -- or, if you're getting married in Florida, do it in November or December.

My ceremony will be outdoors. I specifically picked out venue for the beautiful setting outside! I'm hands down all in for outdoor ceremonies, they only last about 20 minutes and if you love there is assume everyone is used to the heat? A few people have mentioned to me avoiding the heat and moving it indoors, but they can suffer through the heat for a few minutes!! Outdoor is so much prettier than inside girl! Don't let people talk you out of it, have that beautiful gazebo in your ceremony for pictures and where you guys will say I do if you love it that much! Your guests are important of course, but YOU guys are the ones that will look back on photos and memories and probably love it more knowing how much you loved that spot! Not look back and remember your guests sweating Smiley winking

No, Amy and Faincebae....having people outside, in Florida, in the summer, is a horrendous idea. Unless you seriously don't care about your guests. Lemonade and fans do NOT make for a 'beautiful moment". You want that moment?
