I'm having my wedding in a garden late June. Ceremony will be about 1/2 hr.

For you brides also having outdoor ceremonies, what are you providing for your guests' comfort? I'm thinking of using:

1.chairs (enough for all guests)- was at a wedding once with only enough for 1/3 guests

2.galvanized steel tub filled w/ice and mini bottles of water

3.herbal bug repellant (hopefully bugs won't be a problem, but if so I already bought this nice smelling spray & tested it camping) placed in a galv steel tub

4. fans??? parasols??? the priest suggested hats to provide shade, not sure if I'm crazy about that idea- might mess up the photo asthetics.

What are you using? Any input? Thanks!

Thank you everyone for the pointers. I do have a backup plan in case of rain- the venue has a parlor that overlooks the lake. Chairs will be white wood (will give venue a heads up on the number to have once all the RSVPs are in).

I am doing the water bottles too. And of course seating. I also planning on having the water bottles at the reception. Plus places to "recycle them. In oregon each bottle we get back is a nickel for us. We have not found a perfect venue yet. I trying to beo outside which is actually iffy on teh weather. This year we had to bundle up the same weekend I having my wedding. Last year it was extra sunscreen and alot of water.

Some of my beach weddings have flip-flops for the guests (especially heel-wearing women). If your ceremony will be on grass, you might warn guests that high-heels will sink into the the dirt so they may want to bring a pair of flats.

I went to a wedding in FL this July and it started 30 minutes late. I was baking in the sun. I thought that it would have been very cute to have little tubes of sunscreen to pass around on each row. Maybe that is just me because I am uber-pale!! haha!

I gave some little bottles of hand sanitizer (pocketbacs from Bath and Body) but I gave these away after the wedding at the reception in giftbags along with other goodies. Since my wedding was the day before Halloween I had Halloween themed pocketbacs- candycorn was one of them........But they have so many different scents /colors of hand sanitizers to choose from and maybe you could match your flowers or wedding colors. Sometimes Bath and Body has free shipping and discounts, and it's usually easier to buy them online to get the amount you need if you need alot of them . And since I like a few other things from Bath & Body I think I ended up spending 80 cents on each of them with coupons and free shipping. Sometimes they are on sale for 5 for $5 but if you get the coupons you knock the prices even cheaper Smiley smile If the reception is outside, it may may feel nice to have the sanitizer before you eat and you have it leftover............I guess the nurse in me really loved the sanitizer

You might consider purchasing personalized small fans as your favors.

Is it possible to rent nice white tent awning without the sides? It really keeps the sun from beating down on the chairs before all sit, and off their heads during the ceremony. My hubby and I did that many years ago. The night before and early morning there was rain and all our set up was in tact and dry. Guests were comfortable during the ceremony and the officiant was able to see without sun glare.

I'm having an outdoor ceremony in december at 5PM, we're thinking about doing the program as fan just in case but don't think it will be hot in FL at that time, they will be chairs and an inside setting just in case of rain, but after that's about it. Since yours is in the summer, I'd second Rev. Carleen, the nice white tent or whatever your wedding colors are could help out a lot.

I would echo the water and either fans or programs to be used as a fan.

My daughter (well, more my SIL) wanted an outdoor wedding. I nixed that as A) I am highly allergic to bees, so I would not have been able to attend and B) Her Dad (his wife) and I paid the entire tab. LOL! I was very happy that we ended up in a hotel for the event as their wedding day ended up being the hottest day of the summer. ;-)

Great suggestion on the chairs, not having metal.

Patricia, FL is not usually hot in December, especially at 5 p.m. In fact, it might be chilly. And Dec. is not USUALLY rainy, but there are no guarantees.

We have the opposite problem, winter outside ceremony and we're telling everyone to be sure to bring wraps and I'll have heat lamps.

I think the bug spray is a good idea, but if you were dressed nice for a wedding would you really want to put it on and then go inside for the rest of the night and smell it?

It's a very nice smelling spray with herbs and natural ingredients- not your typical bugspray smell. Hopefully bugs won't be a problem, but I do want to have it handy just in case someone does want it. I like the sunblock lotion idea as well. Maybe I'll just purchase a few big bottles and have them in the same bin as the bugspray, along with a sign identifying them. Will look into a tent or canopy for the ceremony.

We are having an outdoor wedding-early June-in central Michigan. We have white plastic chairs-enough for all, and are using silk/paper fans w/tags tied to them as favors also. This ensures everyone can see (no parasols-even tho I really like the idea) and the favor is inexpensive. I hadn't thought of the water bottles, so thank you for that! Smiley smile Our ceremony will only be about 1/2 hr and the reception is inside at the same spot. Good luck and enjoy!

My ceremony will be as short as possible. We will be saying our own vows, we don't want too much preaching done. lol. So we are providing chairs, and letting everyone know to dress accordingly. It will be in September and the weather is unpredictable.
