Outdoor August wedding...with no Ac?

My wedding is taking place at the beginning of August. The ceremony and reception will be on my parents property in large tents. We live and are getting married in New England so we planned on having the tents air conditioned because, well if you’re from New England you know what August here is like(HUMID!). Since we’re not have me a “venue” in the traditional sense, we’re relying on a lot of outside vendors and contractors for EVERYTHING. The place we are renting the tents from said it will be about $10,000 to air condition the 2 tents we’re having. We contacted a different company not related to the tent company and they quoted us about $8000. My parents are paying and have basically said “Nope, not happening. That’s way too much”. My fiancé and I don’t exactly just have $8,000- $10,000 lying around either.

Would it be terrible to have a wedding in tents...in August...in New England...not air conditioned? What’s been other brides/ wedding guest experiences at weddings like this? We’re not reconsidering the venue or time of year so that’s not an option either. We’re particularly worried about the reception since everyone will be is close quarters, the cake could melt, no one will want to dance, things like that.

If I recall last august wasn’t too bad. Also I must have missed out on the psychic gene people from New England inherit 😂

Please consider picking up a freelancer or PT job or even cut from othere areas of your budget.

No AC in August is going to be unbearable. Are you having any cake? Are you having any cool dishes? There are all going to be destroyed from the essential greenhouse you are creating with a tent in the middle of the day in the middle of summer. Your hair and makeup is going to be sweated off by the end of the ceremony.

Do do you have any older guests or babies/young children attending. Incredibly hot environments for an extended period of time can make them ill.

From one August bride to another, AC is non negotiable.

It is always 80+ and humid. No psychic gene needed. Just a simple google search for those who cant remember what summer is like.

It’s not about being psychic. It’s not even about how bad last August was. It matters that it’s possible it’ll be 90 with 100% humidity and your guests could wind up severely ill.

Right now where I live there’s an average of low 80s during the day and high 70s at night. That’s not terrible.

What do you want me to say? I can’t change anything. It sounds like you expected me to say “wow, I never considered changing the venue or dishing out thousands for something even if I can’t afford it. Thanks guys!”

No, but I expected when you were given excellent advice like moving down to one tent to use that money toward AC or industrial fans or changing the time of your event, you would be more receptive than to act as though your planner said this would work so who cares if my guests get ill or leave”

HAVE THE WEDDING AT A COOLER TIME OF DAY! (Yes I'm yelling) that is the simplest and easiest solution. A morning wedding with brunch would be fantastic! Plus you have all afternoon and evening to enjoy your new husband. Or get started around 7:30 and have a classy cocktail reception. Or shrink your guest list to save money. It's not that hard. Really it's not

That’s really not how it went but okay. We paid for the two tents. It’s nonrefundable. We’d lose even more money if we cut it down to one. Our planner didn’t even bring up people getting sick. We asked her “will it be okay? What’s been your experience?” She assured us she’s never had an issue. Sorry for being gullible. I don’t know what to say.

What they are saying is keep the two tents. Have one AC where the majority of the time will be spent (reception). The guests will just have to suffer through the ceremony.

We dont really want a brunch since we’be Already paid for BBQ. We’d be open to changing it. We’d just need to make sure our Justice could change the time since, surprise, we paid her already too.

It sounds like you should have checked out the conditions of the barn/tent before putting down a deposit. In the midwest August is brutal, too.

"What’s been other brides/ wedding guest experiences at weddings like this?" Miserable, hot and sweaty. We left early. FH has had heat stroke twice and is prone to having it again so he would either not go, or leave and come back to say goodbye.

To say, "Well, yeah, it may nit be that hot, you are right, but it could also be 101 degrees outside too.

You are right, the cake could melt, people will be hot and stuffy, your food will melt and could go bad.

I am sorry you are going through this.

Instead of two tents can you get one bigger tent. Hold ceremony and reception under one tent with AC. Guests can sit at their table and watch the ceremony. I would do anything I had to in order to have AC.
