Out of State Marriage License

Mallory, on January 9, 2017 at 5:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hi!

We are planning a wedding in Orlando Florida at Disney World for October 2017. We live in Massachusetts so we are going to need to get our marriage license from Florida. Does anyone have any tips on how to go about this? Or has anyone ever went through a process like this before? I've heard horror stories about mandatory waiting periods and lengthly application processes. I know calling and asking would be an option but I was hoping for advice from someone who has gone through something like this as well! Any advice helps! Thank you!

You definitely need to call the county you're getting married in to find out. Even if someone here did have the information, it's important enough that you should verify it yourself.

Agree with AMW. We live in MD and got married on FL and I easily found this information online. Please verify with the county you're getting married in but for us since neither of us were FL residents, there was no waiting period. We got our license 2 days before our wedding.

We are getting married in NC and we live in AZ. We don't have a wait period i was scared of that too! We can fill the application out online and then go to the courthouse and we have to show them id and sign the marriage certificate. We get it that day. On the day you get married your officiant has to sign it and then either you or your officiant has to file it with the court. You should also spend the extra money to buy the certified copies you will need those if you're going to change your last name.

You can get them through the mail. I recommend speaking to your officiant. They will be able to give you full details.

You would get it at the clerk of courts. There are a couple offices in Orange County, but in Florida you can get it in any county and it's valid for the whole state. They are valid for 60 days.

I'd talk to your officiant or add "Paging Nancy" to your post title. I'd imagine that your contact at Disney can navigate this with you too.

It's different for every state, and it's dependent on the county where you are getting married. We're in AZ and getting married in DE and we know we can go the day before to apply and have no issues. We also know there is an online application process if we wanted.

My cousin got married in PA and lives in GA. She found out on the day they applied that their license would become valid 3 days after the date they went in to apply. They were extremely lucky that their wedding date was the first date their license became valid!

Call the county and find out what the rules are!
