Out of State Bridal Shower-How to Deal with Gifts?

My bridesmaids are throwing me a shower in Texas and I live in Virginia. They are not sure whether they should tell people to ship gifts directly to my home address in Virginia or to bring them to the shower in Texas. Obviously, if people bring the gifts to the shower, I would then have to ship them from Texas (and there will only be about 15 to 20 people attending so this probably is not a big deal). But if the hostess instructs everything to be shipped directly to me then there will be nothing to open at the shower, which kind of defeats the purpose of a shower, right? What have you done?

Well, I think it depends what kinds of things you are registered for. I would not want to be shipping china here and there. I would prefer things be shipped to me. Or, maybe you can do just a girl's day, and have a brunch/ get together with no gifts, or just lingerie?

I know this may sound stupid, but what about a gift card shower or some theme that people would by small stuff for you! Just an idea!

Well hopefully people will take into consideration that you are from out of state and will buy smaller size itmes that you can pack up and ship back home. If it is a larger size item, then guest will probably send it to your home.

The hostess should inform the guests that you will be traveling to get to the shower. She can then suggest that guests bring gifts that are easy for you to pack in your luggage on your trip home (like towels, linens, flatware, kitchenware). If they would like to buy you china or something fragile or breakable, she can tell them to ship those items directly to you. That way, the breakables will go right to your home but you will still have presents to open at the shower. Best of luck!
