Ok, so I get a call from the venue today (a hotel) and they tell me that they will be doing renovations on the hotel during the time frame that my wedding would have occured! WTH? Ok, so I get a call from the venue today (a hotel) and they tell me that they will be doing renovations on the hotel during the time frame that my wedding would have occured! WTH? I don't know what to do! We cannot push the date back! I have already sent out the STD's and I have already ordered the invitations! The only "good" thing was that they did contact other hotels in the area to see if they could accomodate us...but that is still not enough! I don't wanna cry over spilled milk but I am freaking out over here!!!! :-(

Wow that's awful, but at least they gave you ample warning & are apparently willing to pay your invitation re-print costs. AND you have a planner that is on th ball.

As an FYI to all - you should always ask about renovations when interviewing a site. Obviously to avoid situations like yours, but even if they finish well before your wedding, the whole color and design scheme can change and wreak havoc on your roon design.

Well, we got in contact with the Hilton and they can accomodate our wedding. We are also being reimbursed for our invitations. The only downside is that the Hilton is more expensive than the Marriott, and I don't think it is going to be in our budget. At any rate, we did schedule a site visit for Saturday so we will see how it goes.

You should ask the marriot about covering the additional costs for moving to the hilton.

I agree with October Bride. They should pay the difference in price.

Definitely talk to them about covering the difference!! and like someone else mentioned check any other contracts you have in place, caterer, dj , photog to insure that you will not be hit with additional charges for the venue change. Sounds like you've been thru a nightmare but I believe everything happens for a reason, and whatever that reason may have been you were not supposed to be married at the Marriot so count your blessings. Much love and best of luck!

Yes, I agree! They should pay the difference. I have asked the Hilton if they would honor our contract with the Marriott, or at least offer something similar, so I am waiting for a response now. If they cannot, I will be asking the Marriott to compensate for the difference, because it is simply not in our budget to do so.

As of right now, I am good on all of my other contracts, so I don't forsee a problem transitioning those.

I really hope this works out for you. I'm so sorry this happened. How rude of them.

That's horrible!!! You had a contract with them and they broke it. Even if they returned every dime of your deposit to you, I'd tell them they owe you for the save-the-dates you already sent, the stamps that went on the STDs, the invitations, and the shipping charges. It all adds up to big $$, not to mention a lot of headaches. That's the LEAST they better do for you, otherwise I'd call the Better Business Bureau and an attorney and sue for breach of contract!

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

Make them reimburse you for everything!

    1. cost of STDs

    2. stamps on STDs (that adds up)

    3. invitations w/shipping costs

Call your stationer/invitation company and see if you can stop the printing, if it's not too late.

Wow i can't believe that they did this to you, but the good thing is at least they are trying to help you find another place as well as give your money back on the invites. i take is as you were not ment to be there. i would def see if they would cover the extra money for the hilton, because it's their fault that you have to move. i hope everything works out ok. keep us posted.

I would be furious. My venue is renovating and they neglected to inform us of the change. FH was furious. Of course we chose it based on the current appearance. I told him that it would be okay because unfortunately we were stuck with it. It turns out that it is going to be more beautiful than before. I just shared that to give you some hope. Everything is going to work out perfectly. If not the Hilton, you'll find somewhere better.

Well, since most STDs don't state the location of the event, I wouldn't push for that unless you date changes.

The difference in the price of the venue IS their fault, and I would think paying that would be cheaper for them than a lawsuit for breach of contract and the poor publicity. (Read the fine print, though - they may have a "we reserve the right to..." lingo that gets them off the hook.)

Oops, didn't think of that, that the STD's don't usually have locations, studio g

I am waiting before I submit my receipts because if we have to change the date, then they will have to reimburse us for the STD's and stamps, which add up when you are buying in bulk! FORTUNATELY, we have found a place that we really LOVE!!! And it looks 100 times better than a hotel would. It is a bit more expensive, but not it is well worth it! And its only about $1k more! My FH has to see it in person ( I went by there today and we are both going next week). The only thing is that someone has our date on hold, but they have not paid their deposit so if we can beat them to the punch, its OURS. Otherwise, we would have to move it up a week to April 23rd...which wouldn't be too bad but I just really wanted to keep it on the 30th! Everything happens for a reason AND this place includes the chiavri chairs in th price! How awesome is that?! ;-)

Wow, great job finding the new place! I could not even imagine what I would do in that situation. I definitely would not have handled it as well as you have!

Well we just met with our new venue manager and it is PERFECT!!! Everything happens for a reason I guess!!! I am even more excited than before. I was able to get our full deposit back and reimbursement for our invitations and costs so everything is good now!! I had a frustrating week last week, but I am feeling much better now! Thanks to everyone for their advice and kind words, it is greatly appreciated!!!! :-)
